I lived in La Crescenta during the 1977-78 rainstorms and landslides. Even the cemeteries disgorged their contents into people’s backyards.

All the catch basins designed to keep mud and debris from sliding downhill are full.

Yep. They've all backed up into my garage and patio!!!!

But don't worry. The rains will stop. We're MAJOR backwashing the pool.

Now is when the lack of greenery and trees on the hillsides as a result of the fires will really matter. They have nothing between them and the mudslides.

It's been raining here in Phoenix all day, I imagine we're going to be hit with what is hitting California today.

Five power lines down around Toluca Lake.

Heavy surf at Seal Beach.

Gotta get out and see that.

Late night update:

*************************

Forecasters say the worst rainfall from a Southern California winter storm has passed after having caused several evacuations and cutting power to more than 60,000 people.

Most residents of the Los Angeles foothill communities who were told to leave their homes due to debris-flow fears amid heavy rains are being invited to return.
