I’m laughing at the law of unintended consequences.
Back in 2004, the Dems. in Mass. changed the law on Senate vacancies, because they were afraid that Mitt Romney would appoint a replacement for John Kerry if Kerry had been elected president. So they changed the law so that a special election would have to be held if a Senate seat were vacant.
Then this year, they were trying to change it back when Ted Kennedy died. But instead, they ended up with a temp. appointee and a special election.
If they had left well enough alone in 2004, Gov. Patrick would have appointed a Democrat to hold the seat till the term expired, and we wouldn’t have had tonight’s election.
Are the Dems. who were so eager to have special elections to fill a Senate vacancy happy tonight? It took almost six years, but Karma has come around to bite them in the butt.
Ted Kennedy was seated and sworn in to HIS Senate seat. Two days after HE won a special election in Massachusetts.
