Palin’s Take
Commentary Magazine ^ | 01.19.2010 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 01/20/2010 3:43:43 AM PST by militanttoby

Sarah Palin via phone on Fox says this is a “tidal wave.” She calls it a message against the status quo in D.C. “A referendum on the Left’s policy agenda” she declares. The people are opposing a government take-over of healthcare and an intrusion in our lives. This is a “step in taking our country back.” She says she would have endorsed Scott Brown had he asked but he “didn’t call in a lot of outsiders.” The Tea Party movement vs. the Republican Party? She says she doesn’t look at those as opposing phenomenon. The Tea Party, she explains, is a small goverment movement which is compatible with what the GOP should be.

What she wants is to scratch ObamaCare. What does she think will happen? She says the people have to be “ever vigilant” to watch out for the parliamentary tricks. And Martha Coakley? Palin shows some good humored empathy — she knows something about blaming a candidate in a tough year.

Liberal Palin-haters should watch and listen to her now and then. Her delivery has become more polished and she is now able to make her argument succinctly. No wonder the Left is freaked out that she has a platform to refine her skills and build her audience.

Democrats underestimate the “Artic Fox” at their own peril. If “Country Club” Republicans think she is a cute little pet they can put on a leash they are going to get severely bitten.

She is a different kind of Republican. She is not interested in being all things to all people. She wants to solve problems.

She did good. Didn’t showboat. Didn’t stick her nose into yesterday’s election. But would have if asked.

A nice change from many republicans who can’t stop themselves from commenting on everything and everyone.

She hasn’t taken her eye off the ball, the mid-terms. Hopefully, Brown’s smashing victory will energize people even more, and turn the mid-terms into a complete route of the dem party, and setting the stage for the ouster of 0bama, and his remaining cohorts in 2012. Sarah Palin will undoubtedly play a big part over the next several months.

There is a multiple part lesson about Sarah Palin in the Brown win...

1. Brown did not need Palin's endorsement or active support to soundly defeat the dem machine in the most liberal state in the union.

2. It seems clear that the view of the Brown team is that a Palin endorsement might have hurt (this was mentioned quite a bit here).

If a Republican can win without Sarah and if Sarah's involvement could hurt then what does that say about her as a POTUS candidate?

It means she might not be able to carry Massachusetts.

What does it say about her as a POTUS candidate?

It demonstrates a maturity and lack of self-absorbency that is extremely rare. Imagine a candidate who helps where they can and stays out where they should.

Unlike some candidates that think they are God and shove themselves in front of every camera around.

There are some people for whom overt common sense creates cognitive dissonance. A substantial number live in Massachusetts. Were Ms. Palin to campaign on behalf of Mr. Brown, some of those people in Massachusetts would probably experience cognitive dissonance which they would blame on Scott Brown. Since people generally don't vote for candidates which cause them cognitive dissonance, they would be unlikely to vote for Mr. Brown.

Ms. Palin probably couldn't win Massachusetts, and her endorsement would probably hurt the chances of anyone who was running there. Most of the U.S. isn't as thoroughly infested with liberal mind fog disorder as Massachusetts, though.

Part of Brown’s allure was that he didn’t drag in too many outsiders but maintained a Massachussetts populist demeanor—kind of a lone man on horseback (aka pickup truck) riding the countryside and warning “the liberals are coming, the liberals are coming.”

Palin referred to this yesterday, that Brown kept away from the politics-as-usual tactic of mounting up lots of outsider endorsements from the Republican establishment. He got some good help from Rudy Giuliani who knows how to win in blue environs, but mainly did a great job of presenting himself as his “own man.” That’s what voters are craving at this point, and the last couple Republican wins have been less about party and more about the candidate and his beliefs.

This is good. And when Palin runs in 2012 as her own woman, it’ll be REALLY good.
