CA: L.A.'s latest storm brings heavy flooding ( Storm #3 Wed #4 arrives tomorrow )

Traffic is a nightmare, with portions of the 710 and 405 freeways inundated by several feet of water and the Grapevine and Cajon Pass closed by snow. Evacuations are ordered for more than 1,000 homes.

The third day of an intense series of winter storms brought widespread flooding, huge waves and more evacuations throughout Southern California, with another powerful front expected to hit this morning.

Wednesday's storm lacked the dramatic tornado conditions of Tuesday's, but it dropped significantly more rain.

Streets from San Pedro to Sunland flooded. And the afternoon commute turned into a nightmare when portions of the 405 and 710 freeways were inundated by several feet of water, stranding several cars. The Grapevine was closed for much of the day because of snow, and officials Wednesday night shut down Interstate 15 at the Cajon Pass. A rock slide closed California 1 at Mugu Rock in Ventura County.

There were reports of hail and scattered power outages. At least one waterspout off the coast of Hermosa Beach prompted city officials to call residents, telling them to stay indoors. And a dozen children were rescued in separate swift-water rescues in La Habra and Yorba Linda.

I hope we are getting lots of snow in the Sierra’s.

We are. Yosemite and the Sierras are suppose to be getting a couple of feet of snow in the next couple of days. They are saying that we will be getting a short break from Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday. Then another storm on Monday. War already ahead of the normal snow totals.

Weather Matrix Blog - California Storm: 4 Feet of Snow, Pressure Record?

The lowest pressure ever measured in the state is 28.85" Hg according to Chris Burt, author of Extreme Weather. As of this hour, the pressure is already 28.92" at Crescent City in the northernmost part of the state (and 28.88 on the Oregon coast). But tomorrow night is when the big storm swings in further south, and if you believe the NMM forecast model, it will be 28.80" on the central coast, breaking the all-time record (in other words, a stronger storm has not hit the state in recorded history!).

I realize such weather in SoCal causes problems, however, if all that snow holds until spring, hopefully, the farmers in the Central Valley will not get screwed again by the Libtard politicians and get the water that was agreed to years ago.

What the yahoos did this year for the cute little (non-native) marsh minnow, really hurt the US and the farmers there since 1/3 of our citrus, nuts and other produce comes from California.

Well guess that the drought is pretty much over.

How is the little fish doing over in the valley area where they were denying water to the farmers?

It appears that today will similar to the Tuesday event when we had several reports of waterspouts and weak tornadoes. Below is the outlook from the Storm Prediction Center: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html

...SRN CA INTO SRN NV AND AZ...
EMBEDDED TSTMS AND LEWPS SHOULD ACCOMPANY AFOREMENTIONED FRONTAL
BAND AS IT CROSSES THE SRN CA CST THIS AFTN/EARLY EVE. GIVEN
STRENGTH OF DEEP WIND FIELD /50 KTS AT 700 MB AND 70 KTS AT
500/...THESE STRUCTURES MAY YIELD DMGG WIND. IN ADDITION
...DEPENDING HOW STRONGLY BACKED THE LOW LVL FLOW BECOMES...
TORNADOES AND WATERSPOUTS MAY OCCUR. THE DEGREE OF LOW-LVL BACKING
WILL BE GOVERNED BY THE INTENSITY OF SECONDARY CYCLOGENESIS IN THE
L.A. BASIN ...IN ADDITION TO TOPOGRAPHIC INFLUENCES. ALTHOUGH IT IS
IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFINITIVELY ASSESS THE FORMER...THE STRENGTH OF THE
WIND FIELD...FAVORABLE TIMING RELATIVE TO DIURNAL CYCLE...AND
APPARENT INTENSITY OF UPR SYSTEM IN SATELLITE IMAGERY TOGETHER
SUGGEST THAT THREAT IS SUFFICIENTLY HIGH TO WARRANT UPGRADE TO
SLIGHT RISK.

Humboldt Bay area had another 1” in the past 24 hours bringing the total to 3.9” since Sunday and there is more rain forecast. There is a hugh and series cold trough coming down the coast from Siberia and headed to a beach near Ernest. I just told my first wife that if y’all think rain is bad wait until the whole state is overwhelmed by record snowfall only to be followed by record warm rain melting it all.

Been there and seen that (1964)...

I’ve been watching the latest Pacific Storm to hit you and the cold front behind it that you can see here:

http://www.weather.com/maps/geography/pacific/index_large_animated.html

On those Rogue River jet-boat trips I take the guide will point out the high water mark of the ‘64 floods. It is incredibe to see exactly how high the water went. Let’s see, in ‘64 I was a Sophmore in H.S. in Belleville, Illinois trying to learn Algebra 1 and trying to figure out how to get Ruth to forget about the dime.

To my friends in California I leave with with this:

Dude, me alegro de su hacer de la lluvia para que no robar nuestra agua!

The minnows are drowning. The libs have demanded that the rain water be reduced.

Arnoid rushed up to Eureka to survey the damage to his pal, Robin Arkley’s old town brick building after our quake of the 9th. I think Arnoid has been to Eureka 5 times. How many times has he been to your town...
