McCain Runs Ad Slamming Hayworth
Nat. Journal ^ | 1/22/10 | Reid Wilson

Posted on 01/22/2010 9:41:27 AM PST by pissant

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is running a new radio ad slamming an opponent who hasn't even gotten in the race.

The unusual ad suggests McCain is truly worried about a challenge from ex-Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R), who is taking steps toward running to McCain's right.

McCain has already run 2 positive ads on conservative radio stations, but the 3rd ad shows McCain's team has already done the opposition research.

"John McCain's running for re-election. Well, I'd hope so, why wouldn't he? It's not like our country is on the right track. It's a mess, Congress spending us into oblivion. We need McCain, standing up to the big shots, slashing spending," the announcer says.

"J.D. Hayworth? That's not what Arizona wants. He sounds conservative on the radio, but J.D. was one of the biggest spenders in Congress."

An automated poll released Friday shows McCain leading Hayworth by a wide margin, but the ad itself shows McCain's campaign team isn't taking anything lightly. Mentioning one's opponent in a campaign that is still months away is rare, but mentioning a potential challenger who hasn't even formally gotten in the race is virtually unheard of.

McCain has been signaling he will take the race seriously. Earlier this week, he announced he will be campaigning with ex-AK Gov. Sarah Palin (R), who he helped vault to national prominence when he picked her as his VP candidate. Palin is far more popular among the GOP base, especially conservatives McCain needs to get through a primary.

Can’t a REAL Republican slam McPain and get rid of him?

McPain/Feingold was finally CORRECTED.

I’m sure McPain won’t get it, though ... .

McPain is the one of the reasons the GOP has lost it’s way. At best, McPain is a RHINO. He truly can’t figure out on which side of the aisle he belongs. He’s terribly compromised out on PRINCIPLES.

Anyone got some skinny on Hayworth? Can we post some facts about him here so that we can determine he’s the real deal and deserves some support? I already kind of want to just because he’s running against McCain, but I want to support a true conservative rather than a recent ‘convert’ or a RINO that’s just camoflaged as a conservative.

I hope Hayworth wiped the floor with this pantywaste McCain.

And to think, “Sarahcuda” is stumping for McQueeg. So much for her.

Glad I’m supporting Jim DeMint for the nomination in 2012.

AFAIK, Hayworth is the real deal, I think he used to give the GOP "leadership" in Congress some headaches, which may explain why Old Yellowstain is already running ads against him.

One point, however - Hayworth DOES have some Jack Abramoff issues, which will almost certainly be brought up in the primary and the general election, if he wins.

> McCain is rightfully worried.

He’s a treasonous, backstabbing, RINO.

He’s already mitigating the Scott Brown triumph by more talk about “reaching across the aisles” to compromise on “Health Scare” and flush our liberties down the toilet.

He is also talking AGAIN about giving amnesty to tens of millions of illegals who will almost all vote DemoncRAT.

Sarah Palin will put a fork in her political aspirations if she stumps for this goon.

I won’t vote for her if she does.

My research on JD Hayworth shows him to be a staunch conservative. The ACU site and On the Issues site give good details on his record.

One thing is certain, Hayworth is a whole lot better then McCain. If nothing else, on the immigration issue alone Hayworth trumps McAmnesty all day.

I am disappointed with Palin also on this matter. She said she would support conservatives. If so, WTF is she doing supporting McCain?

The Indian reservation rake off and the wife’s inexplicable salary bonanza won’t help him any.

I never saw her as Presidential timber but I had gobs of respect for her. Now I'm leaning toward contempt. Endorsing and supporting the grandaddy of all RINOs is a slap in the face to those whop really believed she was going to work for conservatives.

Juan McCain always stabs Republicans in the back - no RINOs though. He never stabs any Dems in the back.

McCain always has a knife ready for a conservative. He is a disgrace.

I hope this ad makes J.D. mad enough to get in the race.

Send McLame to the the Old Folks Home for some shuffleboard tournaments.
