Soon-to-be "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno will headline the White House Correspondents Dinner in May.
The White House Correspondents Association confirmed Leno's appearances to the The Hill on Friday.
The Correspondents Association said that Leno was asked to emcee the event before he became embroiled in the controversy surrounding "The Tonight Show."
Leno who retired as "Tonight Show" host late last year was recently asked by NBC to take over his former 11:35 p.m. time slot in favor of Conan O'Brien, who has been on the job for just over six months.

Last year Glenn Beck made a comment if he went to another one he would invite Ted Nugent and others to sit with him at his table... That would be funny... I would enjoy that!
Will screechy Wanda Sykes be there again to say she hopes Rush Limbaugh has kidney failure?
Why do liberals never get called to task for outrageous comments??????
Appropriate. A failed host for a failed president.
THANKS JAY, YOU OBTUSE BOSTON LIBERAL JERK.
An entertainer headlining a failed and unpopular president’s event might not make good business sense to most of us, but I don’t fault Leno for thinking that it might.
I say good for him. Yes, he may be a liberal, but he does poke fun at both sides of the isle equally, and does not wear his politics on his sleeve while on air, like all of the other late night host.
Clean Jay or vulgar & obscene Jay? I don’t watch him anymore because his humor turned *blue*.
Gives me just another good reason not to watch.
I remember Leno from the 1980’s when he was on Letterman’s NBC show as a guest. Some very funny stuff. I never liked his version of the Tonight Show that much - his stand up comedy work was very good, but a lot of the man-on-the-street, and sketch comedy stuff wasn’t so good, and he is not a great interviewer. I was in LA in 1999 and a friend took me to a club in Manhattan Beach where Leno used to rehearse his jokes for the upcoming week of Tonight Show monologues. He was incredibly funny - sore ribcage the next day kind of funny. So I think he’ll be great at this event.
