US President Barack Obama suffered a painful defeat in Massachusetts on Tuesday. With mid-term elections looming, it means that Obama will have to fundamentally re-think his political course. German commentators say it is the end of hope. US President Barack Obama has had a number of difficult weeks during his first year in the White House. Right after he took office, he had to wade through a week full of partisan bickering over his economic stimulus package combined with a tax scandal surrounding Tom Daschle, the man Obama had hoped would lead his health care reform team.

One random state senator from Massachusetts who wasn't even on anyone's radar screen a month ago gets elected to the US Senate and every molecule in the entire liberal-progressive universe explodes at the speed of light.

German commentators say it is the end of hope.Seems like the beginnings of a hope and change for many of us. Many now hope that our leadership changes.

Shows how things can happen to people. A month ago, Scott Brown was plugging along, probably not hoping to do more than make a good showing in the election. Now here he is. Hope he is to the job and is more than a shooting star.

“... he could back away from his strategy of bipartisanship ...”
What do they smoke over there? There's been no “strategy of bipartisanship”. Democrats have done what they've done all by themselves and refused any Republican ideas whatsoever. He said "I won" and the people in the way should "sit down and shut up". These "journalist" are nuts or worse.

Right after he took office, he had to wade through a week full of partisan bickering over his economic stimulus package OH MY GOODNESS! I had NO IDEA he had to endure this. Really makes what Bush dealt with in the whole 9/11 thing seem kind of small by comparison.
Do I REALLY have to put a sarcasm tag? Yeah, I probably do.

German commentators say it is the end of hope. Can the end of change be far behind?

Now it's, what?, a year and half since that woman Fräulein Bonesky got to take in das Siegessäule up close (during Zero's "premature victory lap").

Just shows to go you, a house of cards, built on shifting sand cannot last. A small, northeast, gust of wind has blown it all to smithereens.
A good foundation of morals, common sense, and truth will last forever...But, the liberals/progressives have none of those traits....none.

German commentators say it is the end of hope. Not the socialist Messiah the Germans thought he was, eh? What a shame.

Seen the new Time mag cover yet?
Just says “Now What?” and “Obama starts over” with a picture of him looking dejected and crushed behind his desk.

I *almost* bought it just for the cover but didn’t want to give them one thin dime.
I’ll just keep that image filed away in mind, instead....:)
