Hell's Bells! Will Political Correctness be the undoing of the United States? We already turned a blind eye to the foreshadowing behaviors of the shooter at Ft. Hood, and now the US military is all excited to remove very subtle references to the Bible from gun sights because they might upset our allies in Iraq and Afghanistan. The gun sights are manufactured by a company called Trijicon and at the end of their serial numbers, they included endings such as JN8:12. They have been doing this for nearly 30 years and the sites worked just fine. All the verses pertain to "light" which I find to be rather clever since the sights use Tritium which glows for about 10 years to allow the sights to be used in dim light. The serial numbers do what serial numbers are supposed to do, track manufacturing lots and sales details. I think the makeup of the serial number is the domain of the company. Maybe we ought to launch congressional investigations into the digits and letters used for serial numbers by all suppliers to the US military. I am sure some of them also appear in the Bible.
Didn't we learn anything from the Ft. Hood shooting? As a nation, Political Correctness is making us bind our own hands and feet so that we won't risk offending folks who have already said they want us dead. I am quite confident that the millions of Muslims in the United States are strong enough in their religious beliefs to not be threatened by the last six places in a stamped serial number on a gun sight.

They should replace the verse code with “Deo Vindice.”

Does this mean that I can’t use a halo sight either?
Now, I really, really want one with the scripture references on it, but I guess the PC crowd has squashed that.

With speaking the truth while protected by the First Amendment. The people of Westboro Baptist prove this to be true. They are banned from Canada.
The Military has a thing called a HALO. It stands for High Altitude Low Open parachute jump, utilized by, I believe, Special Forces Units. Since we all “know” who wears HALOS, and where they are featured, will the Pentagon now have to ban HALO operations because of the propogation of a (pardon me) religious belief?
I’ve got a feeling (and I’m hoping) that the commercially available Trijicon sights will continue to have the references. Commercial customers don’t get to dictate what the content of the manufacturer’s serial and lot numbers are made up of. They can either buy them as is or not. Otherwise, they can take a file and 15 seconds and remove the markings themselves.
It is just the ones manufactured under specific US government contracts that are involved in this cooked up controversy.
BTW, anyone want to speculate on the scripture references continuing to be applied to the sights but in a more discrete location where the hyperventilating anti-religion types can’t see them?

The FedGov probably threatened the CEO of Trijicon with federal criminal penalties if he did not remove the verses. It is Holder’s MO.
