I think it would be a fine idea for individual States to issue DVDs with every CC permit, with a wealth of information on them for CC holders.
The idea is that, while gun ownership is good, and sensible gun ownership is better, educated gun ownership is the best. Such a DVD could include, but is not limited to:
Proper gun short term and long term storage, including during transport in a vehicle. Secure storage when the permit holder is not around. Proper gun maintenance. Legal limits on being armed, such as federal buildings and airports. State, County and city ordinances to include unsafe discharge, liabilities, how to report a missing or stolen gun, and how to identify and act around law enforcement officers (a two-way street).
Gun etiquette, and the difference between holstered, brandishing and menacing. Gun use on your property and in public, a section on deputization, the location of gun ranges.
Even things like “selecting the right gun for you”, in-State gun and ammunition ownership outside of federal (ATF) authority. Legal rights and responsibilities of gun sales and transfers.
These things are just off the top of my head, and I’m sure I missed a bunch, and added some of little consequence. But the overall principle, of a free, “DVD education” to those who purchase CC permits, would likely make a good thing better.
Better yet, youtube.
Kinda like the Green Book on DVD?
Good idea.
Actually, this sounds like a VERY good project for the NRA. I’d buy such a DVD in a second. But not the crap they keep sending me. Have you suggested it to anybody there???
