No, I didn't recognize him, but I knew who he was when I saw his face on TV and recognized what I saw him wearing at Costco. We've seen Gina Lollabrigida and Eddie Albert Jr. in casual passing by in Denver many years ago.

You are correct, Wal-mart is evil when they are trying to create jobs in depressed areas, what will they be now, celebrated by them.

They are building everywhere. There is nothing sold at Walmart that I can't buy somewhere else, usually cheaper.

while that statement is, at best, nonsense, even if it were true, with gas at 2.75 or so per gallon, just how far are you willing to drive to save 2cents here, 4 cents there. At Wal-mart, everything is there....you can walk from auto parts to toys to clothing to groceries.....quality products (usually) at more than reasonable prices.....old Sam was a brilliant marketer

Pretty confident of yourself arent you? It just so happens Walmart is considerably further from my home than countless other stores, so you are incorrect in your assumption (and YES, most items, if not all, ARE cheaper elsewhere). You fail to take into consideration sales and good old fashioned competition, which is a staple of life in the USA these days.

of course I am....the vast majority of items sold at Wal-Mart are priced very competitively. They try to locate in market areas that will supply them with enough customers to support a big box store....so does Target and K-Mart. Thes people are not stupid, they are masters at merchandising. Of course you don’t drive 30 miles to a Wal-Mart to buy a screwdriver when you have a hardware store across the street. Years ago, Kresge and Woolworth discovered that if you put a whole lot of what people want and need in one location, people will come to you to buy it. Nothing has changed except the concept has grown. Does a Wal-Mart work in every locality, of course not....does every small town have a Kroger supermarket....nope, just those than can and will support one. I live in a city of about 17,000 and a new Super Wal-Mart is being built to replace our old regular Wal-Mart....will that hurt some local businesses...probably, but as you said good old competition is what it is all about

With so many jobs lost, there should be lots more planting gardens this year.

Hi Granny!

Went to the store yesterday and found about 1/4 the seed displays I would normally see at various stores. I know it’s early, but in all of them there were few tomato seeds. I asked store employees if more seeds were on the way and was told repeatedly that corporate buyers decide how many seeds are sent to each store and when they are sent. That equates to the possibility unless you buy them early, you might not be able to buy them at all if others get to purchase them before you do. It sounds greedy, but if you cannot locate what you want to plant in seeds, it will affect people. Also many are watching not to purchase those Monsanto-branded products.

I don’t know, if you need to do anymore pitching than giving out the free sample you’re probably selling crap. I buy what they’re sample pitching at Trader Joe’s over half the time, and usually without even talking to the person handing out the samples. I smell it, I eat it, I grab one to buy.

oh please....I shop at Trader Joes in indianapolis all the time, I taste their samples and if I like them, I buy them (I have several jars of miscellaneous salsas and dips that are about a year old.....good salesmanship)...that having been said, I also enjoy the freebies at Wal_Mart..are they any better or worse than at Trader Joes????nope, just different

The most important fact for buying seeds.

I always got more pounds of old variety cherry tomatoes per plant, than I ever did on the larger tomatoes.

The plum tomatoes are also good producers.

Cherry tomatoes are my very favorites Granny. I ate so many as a teenager, I still have scars from the boils I got from overindulging in them. To date, I’ve not changed a bit and still overindulge in them. Most of my tomato canning this past summer was of cherry tomatoes.
