Wal-Mart says it's cutting more than 10,000 jobs at Sam's Club, about 9 percent of the warehouse club operator's staff.
The world's largest retailer says it's outsourcing its product-sampling department to Shopper Events, a marketing company, and eliminating another unit.

When Walmart lays off people, you know that the bottom is about to drop out of the labor market.
Uh-Oh. When WM employment goes down, we are in big trouble.
One of the Sam’s Clubs closed last week was here in the Treasure Valley, in Nampa. I think they should have opened the store in Boise proper. If Costco can have TWO stores in this area, Sam’s can have one. They simply chose a poor location. It wasn’t in the main Nampa shopping district, and it wasn’t where Boiseans go regularly, so there you have it.
This is good news for the Walmart-hating liberals. I’ll bet they are all cheering right about now.
Um..there are plenty of wal-mart hating conservatives right here at FreeRepublic.
Look around
This is about the people who make and serve the complimentary tidbits of food you get back in the freezer area. They were just giving out free samples, NOT selling the things they were supposed to sell. These employees never cared a wit about selling just standing there handing out free samples. Sam’s was justified in doing what they did and they’re going to hire another firm to do what this one was supposed to be doing.
We were there when it happened this morning.

Letter reveals LA's plans for more layoffs
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Council leaders have begun laying the groundwork for the elimination of at least 1,000 more jobs by July 1 in an attempt to eradicate a budget shortfall that has now ballooned to nearly $200 million.
You are correct, Wal-mart is evil when they are trying to create jobs in depressed areas, what will they be now, celebrated by them.
A good thing...
But the corrupt mayor needs to eliminate 5,000 more government jobs. These people are worse than welfare parasites...
Get these people off the backs of the tax payers.
Do it now!
We have a Sam’s Club here, but no Costco. I avoid it as much as possible, but do purchase some of our long-term storage items (and books) there. One thing that irritates me.....once I wait in line to go through the check-out, I also have to wait in line to show my receipt to the “gate keeper” to get out the door.
yup!
When we lived near Phoenix there was a Costco and a Sam's Club and we joined both. One day the Costco was nearly empty while I shopped and quite a line of people outside the store. I walked inside the store alongside a man with suspenders and gray hair and split away to do my shopping. Turns out that man was Newt Gingrich, there for a book signing in my pre-political days. I saw on TV news about the book signing when I got home.
It’s coming...

The suffocating leftist policies of the Baraqqis continues to murder jobs.

More fallout from the Obama economy.
Newt in suspenders......well, that’s one thing he has in common with Mr. RR.....a holdover from his old Forest Ranger days.
You didn’t recognize him when you saw him?
I know that often when I see someone famous out of context, I don’t realise who I saw until later.
