Today's CNN poll shows a majority of Americans think stimulus money has been wasted. (Cue blogger barroom brawl.) Time columnist Joe Klein was the first to upend his keyboard, calling Americans "too dumb to thrive," and unleashing an epic rant against respondents who clearly don't grasp the stimulus package. Online conservatives all-too-happily piled on Klein in turn.
Yelping about elitism, stupidity, and the duties of democratic citizenship, the two parties have all but hurled copies of de Tocqueville at each other. Here are the Atlantic Wire's lightly censored highlights:

* 'Arrogant Ignoramus Joe Klein,' returns Bluto at The Jawa Report, who takes it upon himself to explain the stimulus in terms even "a sheltered ultra-liberal media parasite ... can understand." He calls the stimulus a "zero-sum" endeavor: "If the government, which produces nothing, decides to spend however many tens of billions of dollars on 'shovel-ready' boondoggles and buy-the-vote projects, that money comes from taxpayers, the people who are actually producing things." He concludes with some explicit excremental metaphors directed at the ex-Clintonite columnist.

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Those who can’t teach become journalists.
Dumb title: The internet is not returning the favor; Americans are.
“How does such an illiterate numbskull have a job in journalism?”
He managed to graduate with a history degree, American Civilization.
Very, very popular degree for the draft avoidant student during the Vietnam era.
Every numbskull dodging the draft got a history degree.
*Oh yes, they did.
Joe Klein - dumb enough to fail.
What is Joe Klein’s empirical evidence for believing that the stimulus created jobs?
If you believe that the number of jobs created by the stimulus is greater than zero, then you should be prepared to quantify the number of jobs and to at least explain your rationale for those numbers. The adminstration spokespersons on the talking head shows can’t even come up with a consisent story.
Joe Klown is a clone of Marsha Coakley.
Which is precisely the reason why she lost.
On second thought, they may be right: it's been wasted on them. Indeed, the largest single item in the package--$288 billion--is tax relief for 95% of the American public. This money is that magical $60 to $80 per month you've been finding in your paycheck since last spring. Not a life changing amount, but helpful in paying the bills.
Evidently, Klein doesn't realize that this magical "tax relief" results merely from a change in the withholding table. The tax rates were NOT reduced. Not even a whit. So that, at the end of the year, whatever "relief" was gained in the ol' paycheck will still be owed to the IRS.
That Klein was too dumb to understand this means it is he who is "too dumb to thrive".
In fact, Klein might be dumber than Joe Biden.
My favorite Joe Klein is stupid quote was hearing him call people dumb because they did not believe in evolution and he said “haven’t they seen the Grand Canyon?” or something like that. I scratched my head and said Joe , I think the Grand Canyon is an example of erosion not evolution. I looked it up to be sure and then I realized this guy is a moron with some kind of arrogance complex. He is a joke.
The good news is that TIME is losing subscriptions at an amazing pace.
Klein was on Hardball with Thrill-Leg the other week, spouting his moronic Lefty drivel.
Imagine what 787 billion of tax CUTS would have done for the economy, versus taking it out via the “stimulus”.
