Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday offered yet another way California can save on incarcerating illegal immigrants: send them to Mexico.
The Republican governor said he will not raise taxes for a second year in a row during a speech at the Sacramento Press Club. Instead, he suggested that the state can find plenty of money in other ways such as cutting pension costs, allowing offshore oil drilling and lowering prison expenditures.
Schwarzenegger's budget plan calls for an $880 million infusion from the federal government to pay for housing illegal immigrant prisoners who have committed crimes in California. The governor also wants to rely more on private prison companies to run the state's corrections facilities.
But he later gave an off-the-cuff suggestion that California should send its undocumented inmates to Mexico and help our southern neighbor build a new prison to house them.
"In the prison system alone, we can go and take inmates, for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here, and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.

He wants to send them South and pay for half the cost of building a prison there to house them.
Following that logic, let’s build a bunch of schools in Mexico and send all the illegal students there to go to school.
What about stopping welfare to the illegals, mandatory e-verify,cutting the pensions of government workers?
wow this Arnie is the Brain!!
why are they frikkin’ here in the first place????
roflmao
George Mason University here in Northern Virginia has a campus in Dubai. The purpose is to prepare Arabic speaking students for an American school.
It works. No reason someone couldn't get his whole degree down there, and it would be cheaper than here. Just call it "The American University of Oaxaca.
Unless he has had too many explosions next to his head, he should know those illegals he would release will be back in literally a week with a different name.
Hell, they aren’t even incarcerated under their real names.
Send them to Mexico, and wait for them to return. It won’t take long.
Better than the first scam he and Granholm came up with.
He wanted to send them to Michigan and give us an IOU to pay for them.
Just punish the businesses that employ them and stop letting them steal taxpayer’s money and they will go back on their own.
The cost of building and maintaining prisons in Mexico is less than 20% of the cost in the US. When compared to costs to maintain an illegal, Mexican, alien family in Los Angles or Fresno, the expense of prison guards in Mexico is actually an income source for California.
ALL CALIFORNIA'S PRISIONERS SHOULD BE HOUSED IN MEXICO.
The easiest way to get rid of Mexican prisones is to get the illegals off the streets and out of our schools.
Stop..ID. Send ICE buses to the schools..cart them of to TJ.
building a prison is a one time cost. housing them goes on forever. deporting all illegals would be a one time cost as well. better than them stealing from our social programs forever.
One time cost? lol
If they are illegals to begin with, they should be sent back either in handcuffs and released at the border or if they are convicted murderers and cartel or gang members, push ‘em out the back end of a C130 at 10000 feet over the Gulf of Mexico and call it a fish feeding program. CHutes are optional.
OOps, that was an ‘off the cuff’ remark.. ;-]
well, had i thought that an option....
extreme times require exTreme measures. ;-)
Following that logic, lets build a bunch of schools in Mexico and send all the illegal students there to go to school.
True. Why should we build prisons for the illegal alien criminals in Mexico? We should send all the Mexican illegal prisoners back to Mexico, forget about building them prisons here, let Mexico build the prisons. If they are criminals here, they will be criminals there also. Mexico should be footing the bill, not us American taypayers.
