To be fair to 0bama, he can't really be blamed for this one. Verizon's landline sales have been tanking for many years as older customers die off, middle aged customers drop their service for wireless, and young customers eschew landlines completely.
The bad economy is only serving to hasten the inevitable death of the landline as people look at any way to cut costs.

Not to mention that F&^@# Verizon is a crooked company that still acts if it has a monopoly.
Sorry for the good people (if there's any) who work there that are losing their jobs, but F&*^#@! Verizon deserves to go out of buisness.

Unfortunately for Verizon, land lines are the only way to go in some areas. Has something to do with the mountains and the lack of towers. /sarc

Here’s the problem with Verizon’s landline logic.
DSL works over those same lines and you can have the DSL without the landline. But they don’t count the rise in DSL revenue as landline revenue. So the workload remains static but they trim the force.
