In our office pool to predict the paraphrased expression most often used in President Obamas first State of the Union, I chose the catch phrase of Star Wars Hans Solo; its not my fault. I use the term paraphrased because although it is exactly what the President will mean, he will never speak the words.
But I have been told that my pool entry is too broad, thus unfair, akin to predicting American Idol judge Simon Cowell will say, you cant sing. So I am being forced to break down its not my fault into more specific sub-phrases. For those who have yet to finalize your blather-pool on what President Obama will say, here is how we did it:
Number of times said __Its Bushs fault Number of times said __Its finance executives fault Number of times said __Its corporate executives fault Number of times said __Its obstructionist Republicans fault Number of times said __Its talk radios fault Number of times said __America is to blame I am not going to give you the odds as to which is our pools leading phrase; that would be cheating. But if you have a sure-winner that we missed, please email it to me marked private. Me cheating? I am just, aaaah, doing research.
I do have a disclaimer since there is a way President Obama will sound like he is accepting blame. It is likely he will say something close to, I should have communicated our message better. This could be mistaken as President Obama owning-upbut he and all of us know how inundated we have been with his messages. Such a mea culpa would actually be the President blaming us for either not listening or not understanding his brilliance. Stupid us.

Time for someone to make up a drinking game rule.
Is the ‘State of the Union’ one of the 57 or is it the 58th?
Shouldn’t there be 57 x 2 = 114 Senators?
Hmmmmm....
I was trying to think of a drinking game this morning...Key phrases would be:
Let me perfectly clear
Failed (or discredited) policies of the past
Middle Class
and if you really want to get hammerred “I”!
“We inherited” + 10
He will get laughed at. He will get pissed. It will be like Carrie.
While we're at counting the times it will be said, we might as well count the ways it will be said.
Ditto... I can tell you one thing for sure, his speech will be full of lies, deceit and disingenuous promises...
Apparently he is going to propose a ‘spending freeze’ not touching things like Medi-Care, SS, Defense AND protecting the PORK already on the books. It is not clear what he intends to freeze.....or for how long - what we do know is that it won’t be near enough and the rhetoric will be covered in moss............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I’m in for “I will fight” (or some variation) at fifteen.
I’ll be listening for “the previous administration”...
Theme: I have only had one year to ‘fix’ what “the previous administraton” did in 8 years
Theme: I have only had one year to ‘fix’ what “the previous administraton” did in 8 years
The one most likely to get you drunk if 60 seconds will be “I” because there will be so many the bartender will not be able to keep up. Best to have them line up 20 or 30 shots in advance. Place a business cared on top of each shot glass. Every time he says “I” use your finger to flick the card off the glass. As time allows, start drinking the glasses without cards on them.
The second most likely phrase is something like, “I will never stop fighting for you!” which is code for we got our butts kicked and probably will again, but re-elect us again for our good intentions.
About the article: If one wants to use Star Wars references, one should at least have watched the movie. The author should be thoroughly chastised for not knowing it is Han Solo, not Hans Solo. I refuse to read or discuss any of his premises until he corrects that error.
0bama is going to tell us how he plans to create jobs. We will hear lots of “ My plan”, and “I”.
He is going to tell us how he inherited problems and how “My” and “I” will resolve our problems.
He’ll also tell us we need to sacrifice except when it comes to $2,700 coats.
“My” and “I” will also tell us how more government will bring us back to prosperity
“My” and “I” will also tell us how we cannot shrink from obligation and duty though “ My” and “I” will not spend much time regarding his obligations of protecting the nation and defeating the enemy.
It will all-in-all be a stirring speech from “My” and “I” but it won’t have one bit of substance in making this nation better, stronger or wealthier but “My” and “I” do plan to spend and tax.
