ACORN gotcha man among four arrested for attempting to bug Mary Landrieu's office
The Times-Picayune ^ | January 26, 2010 | David Hammer

The FBI, alleging a plot to wiretap Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans, arrested four people Monday, including James O'Keefe, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy group's credibility.

FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O'Keefe aided and abetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office's telephone system.

A fourth person, Stan Dai, was accused of aiding and abetting Basel and Flanagan. All four were charged with entering fedral property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

A witness from Landrieu's staff said O'Keefe was present in the office and claimed to be "waiting for someone to arrive."

I agree with you having done similar work. All of the BUG SH— is bogus as Hell. There is no need to physically enter the premises.
United States Postal Service can and will deliver all necessary elements needed to get audio and possibly video for you. So will FEDEX!

remember all those capabilities the fbi wanted built into pbxes / switches some years back to listen in, which they do anyway at the nsa :-) , the capabilities to listen are there, it’s just a matter of turning them on in more modern ‘boxes’. those and other capabilities are built in for maintenance and supervisory purposes but..

if these guys actually had ill intent, they didn’t need a keystone kops approach like this. we’ll see who ends up with egg on their face and hopefully soon. this is a stupid distraction if nothing else.

> NO, they deserve Justice! Innocent until proven guilty

If they are guilty, I’m sure Eric Holder will ensure there’s “justice”.

But let me ask you — do you think Holder wields the hand of justice evenly? Google “black panthers voter intimidation” and tell me what you find.

Moral absolutism enables those who have no morals.

Watch “The Untouchables” to get a feel of how playing by the rules all of the time — in a corrupt system — does nothing but empower the criminals and corrupt trusted officials who feel they’re above the system.

“When you embarrass a dictator, the dictator makes you impersonate phone company employees with the goal of bugging the official US Government-funded office of a US Senator? Sorry, this looks pretty indefensible to me.”

So you’re saying a chicago politician with a radical communist agenda would not trump charges up when tens of billions of dollars are at stake? When the main tool of this communist was put in jeopardy by this peon?

Now thats indefensible.

First off, THANKS for your service! I figured based on your name that you were approximately 62 years old :0) ..
.
I’m was not saying that you WERE a KOS kid, I’m saying the arguments that you were making sounded like their reasoning.
.
I too believe that the enemy is amongst us and government IS the problem, but we have to use the rules that are set forth to CHANGE the government and its leadership, and not say that anarchy is ok because we dont agree with Zero. At one point in the future it may come to that, and unfortunately it seems to be getting here faster every day, but we are not at that point yet.
.
Tresspassing and Illegally taping a US Senator is illegal and will taint ANY information that is received from the wiretap. I just think we need to stand up for justice, rule of law, and honestly - and not check the R or D in front of the name of the accused.

Here’s how I read it - “O’KEEFE and DAI have also admitted to [the same] federal agents that worked with FLANAGAN and BASEL in the planning, coordination, and preparation of the operation.” i.e. O’Keefe spoke to the same feds that helped F and B plan, coordinate, etc. In other words, F&B are Fed Stooges.

"this is a stupid distraction if nothing else."

In the whole scheme of things, you are right, but it will have certain negative effects on some areas of Conservative New Media.

"we’ll see who ends up with egg on their face"

That's what I am interested in too.

No, it doesn't seem that he has handled justice evenly in that case, not even close. But these defendants will have their day in court. Are you saying that every federal prosecutor and every federal justice is dirty? Holder is crooked as the day is long, but can we just look the POSSIBLITY that there was NO SETUP, no coverup, no dirty play??? And this might have been a bonehead move by a young aspiring journalist??

I'm trying to get people to look at this logically and openly, but everyone sees a boogyman in the corner! I dont know if they did it or not, and I'll wait for more info, but these people who are announcing that its all a set up and have just about ZERO information are HYPOCRITS!

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, took the unusual step of urging the new President to ignore partisan labels and reappoint Letten

Stephanie Grace, “Louisiana U.S. Attorney Jim Letten is Obama’s kind of prosecutor” in Times-Picayune, 2008 December 11.

“Someone hacked into Gov Palin’s e-mail account. How did that work out? Son of Tennessee muckity muck, if I recall correctly. Something about probation?”

The case hasn’t come to trial yet. There were three new felony indictments filed as of March of 2009. The new indictments include fraud, unlawful electronic transmission of material outside Tennessee and attempts to conceal records to impede an FBI investigation.
