The FBI, alleging a plot to wiretap Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans, arrested four people Monday, including James O'Keefe, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy group's credibility.

FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O'Keefe aided and abetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office's telephone system.

A fourth person, Stan Dai, was accused of aiding and abetting Basel and Flanagan. All four were charged with entering fedral property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

A witness from Landrieu's staff said O'Keefe was present in the office and claimed to be "waiting for someone to arrive."

I'm sure as soon as the Black Panther's are dealt with in their voter intimidation charges that O'Keefe et al will be dealt with.

What?

Oh, never mind.

What were the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

If so, this is very bad. It will be used to discredit his prior work against ACORN. It is a damn shame!

True. But his and Giles' work stands on its own, being actual video and not just based on their say-so. This will call additional attention to it. I'm glad Giles wasn't involved in this incident.

A witness from Landrieu’s staff said O’Keefe was present in the office and claimed to be “waiting for the electrician
or some one like him”.

Don’t crush that dwarf, hand me the pliers!

snip ...the FBI, alleging a plot to wiretap Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans, arrested four people Monday, including James O'Keefe, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy group's credibility.

Ok - so there is a law about plotting a wiretap? Is plotting a crime?

snip...FBI Special Agent Steven Rayes alleges that O'Keefe aided and abetted two others, Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, who dressed up as employees of a telephone company and attempted to interfere with the office's telephone system.

Ok - so Okeefe is sitting in the reception area when two clowns in costume try to mess with the phones. So I suppose "plotting" and being there when the guys try to mess with the phones is not good.

...A fourth person, Stan Dai, was accused of aiding and abetting Basel and Flanagan. All four were charged with entering fedral property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

Entering a federal property under false pretense - thats kinda vague.

It could all be a set-up. OKeefe makes an appointment to interview, goes in there and waits, and then BAM these arrests and how does he defend himself. Set up is a very high possibility.

It would not surprise me at all if a couple of felons were offered a deal or paid to show up at Landrieu’s office, when O’Keefe had an appointment there, and say he was working with them to bug the phones

Bingo!

BTW they are using a modified Watergate protocol. Nobody ever said that members of the Democrat mafia were creative

NEW ORLEANS – Four men posing as telephone repairmen trying to get inside Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office on Poydras Street and access the telephone network were arrested and with charged in a criminal complaint with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purpose of committing a felony, said U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

Joseph Basel, 24, Robert Flanagan, 24, James O’Keefe, 25, and Stan Dai, 24 were arrested Monday by police after trying to gain access to Landrieu’s office.

“According to the complaint, Flanagan and Basel were each dressed in blue denim pants, a blue work shirt, a light green fluorescent vest, a tool belt and a construction-style hard hat when they entered the Hale Boggs Federal Building,” said a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“Once inside Senator Landrieu’s reception area, Flanagan and Basel told a member of Senator Landrieu’s staff that they were telephone repairmen, and they requested access to the main telephone at the reception desk,” said the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “Flanagan and Basel then manipulated the telephone system.”

According to the unsealed affidavit, the men told officials from Landrieu’s office that the phones were not working properly and that they needed to access the telephone closet to repair the system.

When Flanagan and Basel were questioned by authorities, they said they left their credentials in their car. They were apprehended by U.S. Marshal’s a short time later, said U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the affidavit, the men admitted they weren’t telephone repairmen and posed as such to get inside Landrieu’s office.

The four men, if convicted, face a maximum term of ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

I hope the allegations are untrue. It’s fine to imply you’re a pimp, but to get folks (who aren’t phone company techs) to don uniforms of phone company techs, and thereby gain access to areas that would be “trespassing” for others, isn’t kosher.
