WASHINGTON, Jan 27 (Reuters) - The United States has set preliminary anti-dumping duties ranging from 90 to nearly 175 percent on about $30 million worth of electric blankets from China, the U.S. Commerce Department said on Wednesday.
The ruling is a victory for Jarden Consumer Solutions, a Florida-based subsidiary of consumer products company Jarden Corp (JAH.N). It filed a petition earlier this year asking for protection against its Chinese competitors.
The relatively small case is of one several ongoing U.S. investigations into charges that Chinese companies are selling their goods in the United States at unfairly low prices and benefit from unfair government subsidies.

Before the pro-tariff crowd chimes in, think of this - which one of our products will China slap a tariff on in retaliation? And we do export a lot of stuff to China....
If they wanted to keep the Chinese from dumping, simply introduce safety standards for imported blankets and require by-lot testing.

I look at it like this... instead of making foreign businesses less competitive, why don’t we allow our businesses to be more competitive?

Yes, reducing taxes on US businesses would help. Tariffs don’t.
What’s a fair price? Who decides? Higher prices equate to a lower standard of living.
I guess if I need an electric blanket, it’s gonna cost me 90 to 175 percent more.
I like low prices. I wasn’t being sarcastic. I like to decide for myself what I buy, when and for how much.
We are, I believe, in agreement.
Remember: You’re gouging on your prices if you charge more than the rest / but it’s unfair competition if you think you can charge less!
US-China trade war looming?
China has an across the board tariff by virtue of the yuan/dollar peg.
I’d just assume drop nukes on their asses as let them ship one more crappy, poison filled trinket to our shores. They are the enemy, just as veritably so as al quaeda.

Huh? We still make electric blankets here? I bought one at Costco and it didnt last a year. Must have been a ching-chang one.
I do - I love my electric blanket - you preheat it on a cold night with a couple of pillows over it to get it extra toasty... you slip into bed... NIRVANA! the inventor should be given a nobel prize!
There's something that you should think about, which is that China is fighting a relentless trade war against us and has been doing so for decades, a war that we refuse to join. Also, what benefit is it to our nation (never mind consumers for a minute) to pay China to build a huge, world-class military, including nuclear weapons, to challenge us all over the world? How is this good for our nation?
To me, it's a strategic issue, and cheap goods come in a very distant second. Those people have nuclear weapons pointed at us right now, and you are falling all over yourself to pay them to build more and better, all for cheap electric blankets. Our trade policy is slow suicide, like a drug addiction.

Not that the “free trade” crowd cares. Obviously, this means we are at war by their logic, but they are blind in their self-righteousness and class war.
Somebody please help me; What is an unfairly low price and who gets to decide?

Only people making more than $250,000 per year buy electric blankets from China. So don't listen to those people who claim that this tax will be paid by the middle class.
