Sen. Russ Feingold: Samuel Alito behavior 'inappropriate'
Politico ^ | 1/28/10 | MANU RAJU

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) sharply criticized Samuel Alito's reaction to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, calling the conservative Supreme Court justice’s behavior “inappropriate.”

During last night's address, Obama took aim at the Supreme Court's decision to gut campaign finance restrictions for corporations and labor unions. While Supreme Court justices typically maintain stoic dispositions during State of the Union addresses, Alito, who joined the 5-4 opinion, appeared to mouth the words “not true” as Obama spoke.

"That's not very judicial of him," Feingold told POLITICO. "Apparently, he thinks he gets to make the law. He should maintain his judicial demeanor, and that was inappropriate."

You, as a legislator, get to make the law. But the law that you make doesn't get to abridge the first amendment.

Correction: "You, as a legislature, get to pass statutes. If they are consistent with the Constitution of the United States, and are passed and/or signed as prescribed therein, they become law. If they are not consistent with the Constitution of the United States, they will be illegitimate unless or until the Constitution is amended to allow them."

Feingold is just cranky because he is losing by 4 to a guy who hasn’t even decided to run yet.

And, UNCONSTITUTIONAL McCain-Feingold was overturned by the Justices (rightly so) which keeps him from having his pro-incumbent financing (and edge). No wonder he's throwing a hissy fit...

The SCOTUS is not required to be at the SOTU, they generally come as a courtesy and to show of the separation of powers. They are there on their own time, and did not deserve this inaccurate attack from the Pretender In Chief.

Alito is the new national hero today and the RATS can’t stand it, so they trotted out Feingold. Lame.

It’s a bad year to be an incumbent, especially, a Democrat incumbent.

"Apparently, he thinks he gets to make the law..."

Apparently, Feingold thinks the POTUS gets to lie about SCOTUS rulings in SOTU addresses with no responses or challenges.

That's the problem - the Right has been silenced by expectations of using proper etiquette, etc. The Left breaks every rule in the book while assuring everyone that they aren't. They're steadily casting aspersions against the Right and throwing false accusations about them doing the exact things the Left are busily doing.

Checked your poll numbers lately Russ?

Not very presidential to attack the Justices I would say...particularly with lies.

We already new that Feingold’s vision of free speech under the First Amendment didn't include political speech by a corporation...now we learn he doesn't like the personal and inaudible mutterings of the members of a separate and co-equal branch of government. Astonishing.

Hm. Just imagine if we have McCain/Feingold knocked down (in large portions it was), and McCain with his buddy Russ here were to lose election in the same year. We need to make that happen.

Convince Thompson to run and donate to J.D.

Other blogs are lighting up with self-righteous comments from the liberal trolls about the "evil corporations" and how the Supreme Court should not have overturned McCain-Feingold. I doubt any of them have even READ that POS legislation. Including Obama... It was unconstitutional from the get-go...

I'm not a member of those sites, but what's laughable is that the young and brainwashed don't seem to give a thought that those very same evil corporations are the companies who employ them. I doubt any of them are self-employed, and if they were, Obama and this Congress would tax them out of business.

They criticize Justice Alito's demeanor, even making nasty comments about his wife(!) completely ignoring the fact that it was Obama who was throwing a narcisstic temper tantrum and he started it all.

They are also forgetting that it's the Supreme Court who gets the last word.

He didn't mouth "you lie".

He mouthed "not true"

There is a difference and Feingold is a disgrace.

I’m FLOORED by this reaction from the left and the press.

Aren’t these the same people who protested Cindy Sheehan being thrown out for wearing a crass tee shirt?

Aren’t these the same people demanding all kinds of judicial activism?

Yeah but it’s OK for Gore to shake down Buddhist monks and for Chinese conglomerates to pour piles of money into Clinton’s war chest. Didn’t hear about the soul-less dems complaining about foreign financial interference then.

Johnny Chung, Lippo Group, Chinagate it goes on and on
There is no corruption like democrat corruption, because
they know they can get away with it.

SCOTUS is pissed. Not a smart move to yank the chain of a co-equal branch of Congress.

Feingold’s existence on earth is “ inappropriate.”

So there, Russ. You’re a fool. Why don’t you just drop dead and do America a big favor?

I don’t tolerate fools or traitors. Getting too old to put up with this leftist crap. Too many good Americans died for free speech to let Feingold get away with this, his latest “stupidism”.

Anyone hear Sandra Day O’Conners’ reaction? She is one of Reagan’s few big mistakes. A lefty who thinks they’re smart.

“Is this asshole’s seat in play?”

Yes, there are two running against him. Westlake and Wall I believe. I’m not real secure about either candidate defeating him.

I’ve been to a recent “listening session” of Feingold. He’s an arrogant died in the wool liberal, a co-author of the bill in question and has stated that he knows that he isn’t well liked in certain counties of the state but that the western and northern part of the state will vote for him. So in other words, the rest of us can go to h***.

He also claims that the senators will also be subject to the health care bill’s requirements. It’s the first I’ve heard about that. And he believes in man-made global warming.

The state has been tortured by this man for around 18 years now. We are working to get rid of him. I hope we are successful. A win there as well as the election of a new conservative governor this year would be a blessing from above. After that maybe his clone, Senator Kohl will take a hint and not run for re-election.

“Wisconsin Senate: Thompson 47%, Feingold 43%”

Oh tell me it ain’t so. Thompson has stated he is in favor of the Senate Health Care bill.
