A Dream A Lot Like Mine
(Click here for audio. It will open in a new window, so you can listen and follow along simultaneously.)

From time to time I wonder if she ever has a dream a lot like mine
Where wrong we did back then is back again
An’ hittin’ right between the eyes
Like the life that we denied because it somehow seemed not worth the sacrifice
Of things we thought we needed–now long vanished–and still I pay the price
And, from time to time, I wonder if she ever has a dream a lot like mine

Each day I see the faces as I go about my normal life’s routine
Sisters, brothers, friends and lovers–
Still lookin’ for a face as yet unseen
Someone’s missing from the picture, but always in my heart and on my mind
And if time could make it better, then I guess that would have happened by and by
And, from time to time, I wonder if she ever has a dream a lot like mine

I don’t love her, I don’t hate her–for her, I don’t feel very much at all
But blood that we both shared and spilled
Keeps turning up like writing on the wall
I could have raised my voice to say this choice to kill our child would mean “goodbye”
But, young fool that I was, I stayed and worked at things that weren’t worth a try
And, when it finally ended, I was fool enough to feel a need to cry

Many years have passed since we last spoke or even saw each other’s face
I bear her no hard feelings and hope her life has found a peaceful place
But, let’s just say it happens that we chance to meet and speak for one last time
I wonder if I’d ask her if she ever has a dream a lot like mine
Because, from time to time, I wonder if she ever has a dream a lot like mine

Emmett Grayson "The lasting curse of abortion is that many are convicted in their own hearts of what they wrongly think of as an unforgiveable act of murder, so they can never face it and go deeper into hopelessness and sin. I firmly believe that showing our own hearts, now free of guilt because of the forgiveness through Jesus, is more likely to help 'free the captives' than anything else I know how to do. The verse where I hope for peace in the life of the mother probably did as much to help me resolve things within myself as any of it. I didn't realize until later how integral that verse was to the message" --Emmett Grayson.

I'd like to dedicate this beautiful song to my lost child, Mary Elizabeth (3-16-78), and to all children lost to abortion, and to their mothers (and fathers!) as well. Thank you, Emmett Grayson.

You are fortunate. Life repays life.

Those who succumbed to the tempter's wiles and became cooperators with this kind of evil, can repent and be cleansed and forgiven, like the singer/songwriter here. But I believe they carry the scars of it nevertheless.

The Lord Jesus, who in His mercy paid the price of sin, still bears the wounds--- think of this! --- even in His glorified, transfigured body, even in Eternity.

God love you for choosing life. It's impossible to regret that decision! Abortion, although forgivable, is a life-long regret, whereas pregnancy *only* (and I stress ONLY!) lasts nine months, and one can give their baby up -- should they not desire to raise it -- for adoption, to be placed in a loving home, and never have to bear the unbearable guilt associated through the devil's plan of ending the lives of little ones (and wounding their mothers in the process).

Great song Emmett! Thank you.

A haunting that never ends.

I heard that NOW is opposing the Tim Tebbow ad choosing life that is slated to run during the Super Bowl.

I listened to the spokeswomen of NOW on Bill O'Really. She talks in circles, and never makes any sense as to why they oppose the ad. Apparently the only "choice" they believe in is death for the unborn. How absolutely tragic.

I very much appreciate your kind comments and the lady who thought enough of the song to post it in this way.

The Tebow ad matter is something I’ve even heard lefties try to threaten the guy with the idea that somehow this will put him on the bad side of the NFL. Like he won’t have the draft offers or something. They are all huff and puff about how they have this power and that power. They have nothing and when people stand right the hell up to them and in their faces, they crumble. Didn’t Martin Luther once say something to the effect that “the devil can’t stand to be mocked”? These pro-abortion folks need to be mocked, ridiculed, shunned and shamed in as public a way as possible.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I heard a priest say once that "A woman's right to choose..." is the only sentence used for a defense that is incomplete in its thought. A right to choose... what?... to kill or to nurture?

There is no choice when it comes to the sanctity of life.

Unfortunately, as you say, most are willing to side with the devil than to side with God. How utterly insane!

Great song, Emmett -- As far as these pro-death foes of Tebow go, it's as if they can't stand the sight of the truth ... they think they can keep it behind soundproof walls, and "No Trespassing" barricades ...

Keep singin', Emmett!

Thank you very much, Thomas. There IS a hunger out there for real songs that tell the real truth. A very respected and lovely young lady I know does PR/Marketing work and recently she was involved in a movie project entitled “To Save A Life” which is on the order of “Bella” and “Waitress” - young independent film-makers wanting to portray values. She told me she had gotten it all set for opening in 200 theatres, but then had to go back and double-dlown her work because it opened in 400 theatres instead. Things like this are how we can change the culture from the ground up - by ignoring the “BIGS” who want to peddle crap and making our own movies, songs, records and books.

I thank you for your comment. I know how much this issue means to you and how dedicated you are to it. Getting your acknowledgement is important for the song and I’m nothing more than the messenger who tries to serve the message, but knowing that I’m doing my job is still important to me. Thank you.
