Despite polls showing adamant voter opposition to Democratic health-care legislation, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said yesterday she's determined to jam a bill through Congress.
"You go through the gate. If the gate's closed, you go over the fence," she told reporters.
"If that doesn't work, we'll parachute in, but we're going to get health reform passed."
But first, she said, Democrats must work out significant differences among themselves, specifically between the Senate version of the bill and the more liberal House version, which would expand the federal government's role in health care even more.
"I would not call them minor tweaks," Pelosi said of the differences. "It's more serious than that.
"We're talking about the fact that our bills are about 70 percent the same, perhaps 80."
Referring to President Obama's comments during Wednesday's State of the Union Address, she added, "The president optimistically says 90 percent.
"Maybe he knows something I don't know about what will happen in the Senate."
Republicans, meanwhile, relished the idea of Democrats sticking with their unpopular plans.(continued)

I think they are literally going insane that even though they control the House, Senate and White House, they cannot get their socialist, amnesty-loving, spreading-the-wealth agenda through Congress. They have the dem seats but the dem leadership can’t get the votes.
And they see November 2010 speeding right for them and they know their time is very, very short.
