I emailed this police dept after reading the story some time ago. Naturally I got no response. But silly, ignorant cops like this are part of the reason law abiding citizens do not trust the police.

I remember the initial posting well. The implication by Vin was that the business owner had been handcuffed for an hour. Now we see that it was only for a couple of minutes. We also had the impression that the owner was there by himself with the police officer. Now it turns out that there was a security guard and the owners wife with him.

Overall, I would say the incident was handled well after
Vin published it. The new young officer has learned a valuable lesson, as have all the officers on the force. This incident will stick with the young officer for the rest of her career. She will probably get the nickname “handcuff” to remind everyone of how she screwed up.

I don’t think it was a bad enough mistake to fire an inexperienced officer, and we luckily had Vin around to turn it into a learning experience for the whole department.

Gangbangers and other societal wastes are products of the same bueurocratic welfare state that gave rise to modern American policing.

Police were the first leftist, socialist welfare agency begun from the same 1880s Progressive, pseudo scientific social planning notion.

Sorry, gangbangers are the cause/result of police.

No police, no gangs.

Why? Because they, gangs/criminals, like they have been since time immemorial, would be traced down by the community who are best able to identify them and kill them. Something that police now prevent. Police protect criminals from the citizenry.

“Nobody with an ounce of common decency hates the police. Yes there are bad apples but only scumbags hate the police.”

And geez—”throw a baby in front of a gang member?” Chavez has nothing on you, pal. People who don’t trust unlimited power HAVE to hate the nearly unfettered power of today’s police. Only extremely rarely are police charged with abuse of office, and that is because of the thin blue line, not because of the likelihood of conviction. I personally know the sheriff of a county that lied on the stand, and can prove it from the record. I know the record was forwarded to the state’s attorney in that county. Assume for the sake of argument that everything I am saying is 100% true, and that in the state I’m talking about, perjury’s still a felony. Do you want to give odds on his being charged?

So I’ll take you labelling me a scumbag with a lack of common decency, even as big a lie as that is, as long as I can stick the label of quisling-ready-to-lace-up-the-jackboots on you. Lick the hand of your master. We don’t need the likes of you.

the Las Vegas business owner who was handcuffed and disarmed after presenting a concealed weapons permit along with his driver's license to a police officer responding to a burglary call at his place of business

Is it illegal to carry a weapon on your own property in Nevada?

“There has never been a decent human being who hates all police.”

He never said he hated all police.

Geez, you have the biggest chip on your shoulder of anyone I’ve seen on FR in awhile (and that’s saying something).

If I had the choice of handling a situation myself or calling on you with your bad attitude, I’d take my chances with my own resources.

I diagree with this ping. My opinion only. I see the logic of the OP that stated that the police are there to "clean up afterwards" and cannot be everywhere at every time.

That being said, I still dont like the idea of the shop owner being cuffed for the "officers safety."

That cops safety was not an excuse to infringe on the right of the CWP holder. The cop should have been capable of doing their job without this stunt and should be punished.

I'll go read any replies, but the logic could have been better explained.

I take the offending post as implying that most folks who obey the law are cop killers...More often than not the Police are a reactive force not a proactive one. So, the motto “To Serve and Protect” is only only a half truth.

I'll drink more coffee and go look again. I didn't see or get the inference but I'm not always right. Thanks.

Yeah, rex is a little unhinged but I was atrributing it to several of her friends' husbands (officers) losing their lives.

Maybe I need to rethink?? Hmmmm....

I am going to guess that 90% of all officer calls is the result of a ‘civilian’ providing the key and only information.

Which means there are two actors( excluding the criminal ) One is directly informed, has the facts, local knowledge. The other ( can be ) thought of as an armed bureaucrat of the state.

So, in this case, what did the (factually) ignorant bureaucrat do? Insult and disarm the party upon which the majority of all police information comes from, ie, the citizen.

Police are totally dependent upon the taxes, good will, support and most importantly, the timely information of their fellow citizens.

The facts of this case, that the officer, confronted with a middle age, Jewish business owner, his wife and the security company, acted so is so bizarre. On the other hand I can not imagine being a officer dealing with the products of the welfare state, usual American run of the road professional social victims( drunk hubby beats druggie wife, and baby sit my slut daughter, druggie son), pointless arrest of the lower class bullet proof criminals, and being a part time revenue agent of the state against the average American working stiff is attractive occupation to the best people. In other words, police departments got to work with what they got in this affirmative action, buerocratic, lawsuit happy, money hustling age.
