Complete headline: Axelrod: 'Is the Republican Party Going to Take the Position That They Are Simply Going to Sit on the Sidelines and Hope That the President Fails and the Country Fails?'
(CNSNews.com) - In an interview with CNSNews.com after Wednesdays State of the Union Speech, Senior White House adviser David Axelrod asked: "Is the Republican Party going to take the position that they are simply going to sit on the sidelines and hope that the president fails and the country fails?"
Transcript: CNSNews.com: Given this past year and spending habits, do you believe that Barack Obama--well, Republicans have said that Barack Obama doesnt have the credibility to reduce the deficit. How would you counter that?
David Axelrod, senior adviser to the president: Well Id say a few things. First of all, as he mentioned tonight, the biggest run up in spending weve seen was in the last 8 years, under the last administration, in which item after item was undertaken--wars, tax cuts, a prescription drug program--without ever being paid for. We went from $5 trillion projected deficits for the next decade to $8 trillion of red ink projected over 10 years. So, I think if it becomes a battle of whos credible, the president acknowledged that we have to spend money because we didnt just inherit a fiscal crisis, we inherited an economic crisis and a financial crisis. And we had to deal with all three.
But Id say this on the subject of credibility: Yesterday there was a vote in the United States Senate. The president endorsed a fiscal commission to--a bipartisan effort--to deal with the deficit that had teeth. There were seven--the vote went down, 53 votes, we needed 60. Seven of the people who didnt vote for it, seven of the people that walked away, were Republicans, who actually were co-sponsors of the bill. And this is the core issue: Is the Republican Party going to take the position that they are simply going to sit on the sidelines and hope that the president fails and the country fails and that they will somehow benefit from this politically? Or are they going tog join with us in a bipartisan effort and deal with our problems. And thats what were waiting to see.
Axelrod should convince the Democrat Super Majority to get on board the Obama train wreck. The Democrat plea for 'bi-partisanship' is only needed to share the blame at election time. Rinos like Lindsay Graham will happily oblige.
The LefTards have EVERYTHING anyone could hope for right now; power, up until 2 weeks ago, a super-majority; a bunch of mind-numbed robots doing their bidding (0bama voters) and they STILL can’t get jack done and they STILL have to blame others for their shortcomings.
Such leadership! Makes you want to follow them right off the cliff, LOL! NOT!
Jerks.
YEP
What’s the matter axelgrease ? Need help taking our country down. I am a republican and I damn sure hope he fails.
My retort to AxelRod is, YOU WON. YOU where elected to lead, why do you want GOP ideas? don’t your ideas work? why did you shut the GOP out of all health care discussions and now change tactics? do you even know what you are doing?
I surely do HOPE he fails at throwing more money into wasteful and ineffective initiatives.
I hope for a huge boatload of fail on that!
The Democrats did not have a problem with partisanship when they did everything they could to see that George Bush failed.
There is a difference in wanting to see this President’s policies fail and the country to fail. To many, if the President gets what he wants, the country is doomed so it is really in the country’s interest the Republican oppose him.
Linking the president to the success or failure of the country is ingenious at best. This country is,has been and always will be greater than any one man no matter his elected office.
Since the Dems have the control in votes what do they expect, anyway? It’s not like the GOP has any say in what’s going on, other than to rail.
I REGRET THAT I HAVE BUT ONE LIFE TO GIVE FOR MY COUNTRY.
SOON
No, we want YOU to fail Jerk. I’ll be clapping at every failure!!
There are plenty of alternative ideas presented to the Dimocrats. Unfortunately, they won’t consider anything that doesn’t involve handouts to big unions, useless industries, or a lazy voter base.
Dishonesty appears to be a defining trait for progressives. Just as Obama frequently uses false dichotomy so is Axelrod. Obama and the Nation are not synonymous. In fact, Obama's goals will bring about the destruction of the nation...so the only way for the nation to win is for Obama to fail.
Populist rhetoric is the Democrats middle name. Get used to it. It is all we will hear the rest of this year.
The White House strategy will be to try and blame Republicans for THEIR failures to pass healthcare, cap-and-trade, etc.
Unfortunately, not many are going to buy this.
This is just another “blame someone else for my failings” that is starting to become a nationwide joke around the neck of this administration.
This caused me to rejuvinate my old tag line. A failure of Obama is a success for the United States. If he succeeds, he will have turned the USA into the next USSR. That would be a failure for what was once the greatest country on Earth.
With Obama one does not have to “hope” for the country’s failure.
OBAMA=ECONOMIC DECLINE
You got that right AXEL- HOLE! Want to do something about it?
