I teach in a 98% black school district. It is a failing school, free lunch/breakfast, many parent(s) don’t seem to work. I teach special needs, so I am not in on every decision regarding assemblies, programs, etc.

Last week I come to find out that the 2nd grade is doing a tribute to Michael Jackson for BHM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was absolutely stunned. I am now quite jaded about BHM- because I have sat thru too many & they all rehash the same thing. It’s really sad how far back in time you have to go. I consider this month at school to be torture. I have found that other white teachers feel this way. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is so tedious & to me does not celebrate genuine achievement.

I may have to be ill on the day of the BHM program because I really have had all that I can take.

Today I see happy people of color residing comfortably in ALL subdivisions and busy in all lines of work.
