How about eliminatiing the DOE, consolidating ATF, TSA, et al into the FBI? Then trim your burgeoning Congressional Staffs!

Good recommendations.

Here's my wish list, at least as a start:

Eliminate the DOE, EPA and ATF. Allow the states to deal with those matters as the Constitution directs.

Eliminate the TSA. Require all pilots/co-pilots be weapons trained and packing. Allow all CCW-holders to carry on domestic flights and/or expand the air marshals to cover all flights, require airlines/airports to provide effective security which is subject to surprise audits.

Consolidate ALL federal law enforcement into the FBI. Eliminate overlap. No more armed feds from each and every department.

Cut remaining departments and congressional staff by 30-50%.

Eliminate all unionization by any government employee. Institute performance-based retention, promotion and pay. Yes, this especially includes public school employees.

Change wasteful and ubiquitous "use it or lose it" budgeting to something more sane and responsible.

Amend the Constitution or enforce the "equal protection" clause to eliminate progressive taxation. Tax every citizen equally and openly. Change Tax Day to be the week before Election Day.

Tie all welfare benefits to marriage, providing incentives for fathers to be fathers. Additional benefits tied to the grades earned by children. Make them as limited in duration as is practical.

Would have been nice if he thought of this when Republicans were in power.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) told CNSNews.com that there are “a number” of federal programs in existence for “no good reason” that the United States could “do without” to help trim the federal budget, which, for 2010, is estimated to have a $1.4 trillion deficit.

Best understatement of the year.

From the above article

"...Sen. Coburn (R-Okla.) has proposed an amendment that apparently would save taxpayers $120 billion “by consolidating more than 640 duplicative government programs, cutting wasteful Washington spending, and returning billions of dollars of unspent money,” reads the amendment.
...
For example, the Department of Agriculture received $26.8 billion in discretionary funding for FY2010, which was a 6 percent increase over last year’s “non-emergency discretionary level.” Sen. Coburn’s amendment would eliminate $1.3 billion (five percent) from the Department and “direct the Secretary to eliminate and consolidate the over 130 duplicative programs at the Department and eliminate waste to produce savings.” ..."

Education Department is worthless. A Carter pay-off to the NEA.

NASA, FDA, FAA, FCC, DEA, HUD, Mediacare, Socialist Insecurity, ...

Let me help with the list. We'll be back under a $1 trillion annual FedBudget before the April 15th tax filing deadline.

The White House must cut all czars. Michelle Obama must let 24 of the 26 her staff. All Politicians must drive their personal vehcle to and from home and washington DC. the taxpayers have banned all politicians from commercial and military planes. Obama must stay in washington, no more flights around the globe. how about that for some savings?

I once wrote to Orrin about my displeasure with his vote to retain earmarks. He wrote back and said until something was done about Social Security we would always be broke. I wrote back and said, “Senator, you always want us to send you to Washington because you have so much seniority. If Congress is in charge of government purse strings, and you’re the senior senator, WHO IN THE WORLD BESIDES YOU IS SUPPOSED TO BE DOING THE ‘SOMETHING’ YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT!??”

He didn’t answer that one. Too busy writing hymns to Teddy Kennedy. He’s a bag o’ gas I tell ya.

The EPA is the biggest fraud and waste in the entire government. We have a bunch of people who are NOT ELECTED issuing REGULATIONS which have the force of laws, assessing FEES AND PENALTIES that nobody in their right mind would vote for, destroying honest businesses, jobs, whole industries!

Oklahoma is so lucky to have TWO great senators.

I’m in MN and don’t even have one sane senator.

There is still a national strategic helium reserve. Why? Because nothing ever actually gets cut.
