Now the *Ducks* are disappearing...

The loss of wetlands in the prairie pothole region of central North America due to a warmer and drier climate will negatively affect millions of waterfowl that depend on the region for food, shelter and raising young, according to research published February 1 in the journal BioScience. The new research shows that the region appears to be much more sensitive to climate warming and drying than previously thought.

"The impact to the millions of wetlands that attract countless ducks to these breeding grounds in spring makes it difficult to imagine how to maintain today's level of waterfowl populations in altered climate conditions," said Dr. Glenn Guntenspergen, a U.S. Geological Survey researcher and one of the report authors. "Parents may not have time to raise their young to where they can fly because of wetlands drying up too quickly in the warming climate of the future," he added.

Polar bears and now ducks - oh the huge manatee!! Did anyone check to see if the flyways are dry or covered in snow? Just sayin.

NON-SCIENCE:

"Unfortunately, the model simulations show that under forecasted climate-change scenarios for this region (an increase of 4-degrees Celsius), the western prairie potholes will be too dry and the eastern ones will have too few functional wetlands and nesting habitat to support historical levels of waterfowl and other wetland-dependent species," said Dr. W. Carter Johnson, another study author and a researcher at South Dakota State University.

The obvious solution would be to build lots and lots of dams. We’d get carbon-free hydroelectric energy, and there would be plenty of wetlands created.

Meanwhile, the actual planet continues to cool, evidently unaffected by the need to pursue Federal grant money.

makes it difficult to imagine how to maintain today's level of waterfowl populations in altered climate conditions,

This has been going on for a long time. The ducks won't disappear, but they will not have the numbers they once had and have been declining. But it's not the climate, it's the draining of marshes for pasture or other land uses.

Ex-duck hunter..................

It’s all that freezing Arctic air forcing them to go to warmer climates ... Seen a weather map of North America lately ... The center of the continent has been under brutal cold for quite some time — Even ducks know that’s not good.

These greenie/global warming idiots pull facts out of their a$$es and write this nonsense. They are immune to rational rebuttals and want all humankind (those surviving birth control) to live under technology dating back to the stone age. Of course our so wise elites will still have mansions, servants and personal jet liners.

Ducks Unlimited has preserved more wetlands than the federal government.

no need for the eggheads to panic. the market will respond.

So, where in the hell is all these damn Canadian Geese coming from then? The declining wetlands, etc. haven’t hurt them any. In Indiana, Canadian Geese are like cockroaches.

It is absurd that any "science" magazine would publish untested speculation based on speculated forecasts of a theory that proponents refuse to subject to scrutiny as a scientific work.

Give me a break. This "science" journal might as well be toilet paper.

“..due to a warmer and drier climate..”

I’m getting sick and tired of people unquestioningly repeating Albert’s stupid assertion that a warmer Earth is drier.

When the global temperature rises, there is more moisture in the atmosphere and MORE rainfall as a result. A warmer Earth is a WETTER Earth!
