CBS is already the equivalent of the USSR era Tass or Pravda. He just wants a formal consummation ala Larry Sinclair

Just what America needs, a ratheresque Minitruth. I suspect there's a role for Mary Mapes in there.

Only now they'll have subpeona power and be immune from libel laws. They will never abuse their power to harass their enemies and support their friends. That never happened over at CBS in the good old days of Fred Friendly, Ed Murrow, Walter Krankheit and Dan Rather.

Perfect.

here is a man who is integrally responsible for the downfall of the MSM with his reckless episodes, who fell from the pillar of self-importance with the advent of FoxNews and internet blogging,...and wants the govt to bail out these same type of news organizations he perpetuated

Unbelievable. He is not senile,..he is just looking to jump from the trivial pursuit card, to a one paragraph wikipedia.

Go home dan. Your teeth are thirsty.

Going along with Rather's ideas helped destroy the career of this ravishing beauty:

* Mary Mapes of Rathergate fame.

All they have to do is look at FOX News and its parent company News Corp. The stock is booming. Their profits and ratings are blowing away the competition. They are proof that it can be done. You simply have to offer something the public wants.

At stake, he argued, is the very survival of American Democrats.

Fixed it

“The very survival of American democracy” is exactly why there must NOT be a government commission with a mandate to “save journalism jobs”.

Quote pulled from a link accessed via Drudgereport: "EDITOR'S NOTE: Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press. Tears welled in the lifelong reporter’s eyes as he discussed the dwindling number of war correspondents."

Boo hoo Dan.

I worked in telecom for nearly 10 years and was shown the door... customers no longer wanted/needed the product I was working. I had very good experience and a marketable degree so I found new employment in a different industry relatively quick in '02.

So welcome to the jungle Danny... make yourself more marketable (like that's ever going to happen with your reputation) and see if the "market" will offer you and your kind employment.
