Ford recalls Chinese cars due to accelerator problem(Ford and Toyota Accelerator Made in China).

We’ve all heard of the massive Toyota recall regarding
the accelerator pedals, but it seems that they aren’t
the only automaker that is getting plagued by the
problem.
It was recently announced that Ford will be
stopping production altogether of their Transit in China
due to the same problem. You may be thinking this is
quite the coincidence but it seems that Ford actually
gets the accelerator pedals from the same supplier that
Toyota does.

I heard that it is probably the computer chip that controls acceleration - sounds like sabotoogy to me...

According to an article posted here a few days ago, the accelerator pedals for the US market were made by an American company.

Not the same:

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak suggested Tuesday in media interviews that Toyota's troubles with a defective accelerator pedal may have to do with software, after his Prius sped up while in cruise-control.
in regards to problems with the Pirus.

That was a cruse control problem.

I have been waiting for this. I figured it was something Chinese in the cruise control.

I've had some experiences with my 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid cruise control. I've had the speed set at the posted 75 MPH going down I-15. When the vehicle climbs a hill, the engine RPM goes high to maintain the speed. Sometimes it keeps going and I find the vehicle doing over 90 MPH. A tap on the brake returns control. My old 2003 Escape with V6 had a similar problem. Both the Mariner and the Escape have exhibited this over speed defect when traveling on SR20 (Idaho) climbing from Ashton onto the local caldera and leaving West Yellowstone southbound over the Montana/Idaho state line on SR20. In every case thus far, it has been at high altitude and climbing up a hill at speeds over 70 MPH (set value).

The accelerator pedal caught under the floor mat hasn't happened to me as my pedal pivots at the floor, not from above.

It’s not the cruse control.

A shim plate was so poor in quality that the linkage wore a hole in it. The linkage got caught in the hole and stuck.

The problem with the Ford / Toyota accelerator was wear.

“Toyota said a repair involves installing a postage stamp-size steel shim.”

I just read that the Chinese are going into the airline manufacturing business, by 2016 they expect to make a 737 clone to compete with Airbus and Boeing,I sure hope I never fly on one.

According to what I have found, CTS is an American company with production facilities around the globe.

I seem to recall that a company that I worked for had CTS build certain sub-assemblies. I always remember that they delivered high quality components. Of course, that was almost 20 years ago.

Did I miss something?

Auto manufacturers are notorious for cutting costs anywhere they can. A few cents multiplied by a run of 250,000 cars adds up to real money. When they make a poor choice, the mistake comes back to bite them in the ass. The losses to repair, litigate and market their way out of the bad publicity wipe out all the savings.

Yeah. You said that.

Are you sure that the pedals in question are made there and not somewhere else?

If they don't crash due to inferior materials, I'm sure passengers would be finished off by a thick coat of lead based paint.

“Are you sure that the pedals in question are made there and not somewhere else?”

I have red articles that say they are made in Canada (Vancouver).

CTS says that the Joint Venture Ford / Jiangling Motors Company accelerators are built in China.

So who to believe?
Does Ford / Jiangling Motors buy parts from Canada
when they manufacture them Zhongshan.
Why did CTS say they were made in China and not Vancouver.

CTS Automotive in Zhongshan, China also builds accelerators
for Honda:

"Products Receives “Supplier of Excellence Award for Product Development” from Honda Motor Corporation

Elkhart, IN…CTS Corporation (NYSE: CTS) has been recognized by Honda Motor Corporation with a “Supplier of Excellence Award for Product Development.” Honda honored CTS on February 12, 2008 at their headquarters in Tokyo, Japan for developing “a compact and low power consumption accelerator pedal with an integrated sensor.” CTS’ accelerator pedal module will be on display for one year in the Exhibition Area in Honda’s Aoyama headquarters. Production for these accelerator pedal modules was launched at CTS’ new Zhongshan, China facility in 2007.

CTS Corporation’s facilities in China were making accelerator pedals for Japanese car manufacturers. You can see the press releases on CTS website.

Here is one of them:

http://www.ctscorp.com/publications/press_releases/nr091020.htm

Some of the press releases have dates. Others do not. You can see that China does make the accelerators for CTS. The issue has not been explored at all.
