Too soon after Bush—no way the country goes for another boyish Southern Republican governor in ‘12. But he did a great job with the SOTU rebuttal, and I wouldn’t mind him slipped in as veep!

Firstly, he's not "boyish" ala Georgie. Secondly, he actually DID do his military reserve obligation (retired a colonel who regularly attended attended drills). Former H.S. football stary, Notre Dame and Boston College Grad and devout Roman Catholic in a deeply committed marriage; two beautiful daughters. As attorney general of Virginia, initiated Jessica's Law and as a very effective lawyer helped several Virginia Episcopal Churches break away from the Diocese that backed the "Wrong" Rev. Vickie Robinson for bishop of N.H.

So did George Bush, with tons of time credits to spare.

He’s an impressive guy, no doubt. His conservative religiosity would be an issue for many Northern and Western moderate/independent types, but he’s undoubtedly got ‘boyish charm’ (I didn’t mean he was lacking in maturity), and that combo just fits all too well into the unfortunate Bush stereotype.

Again, I could see him serving as veep and stepping up from there.
