The original dog in the manger had nothing on this guy: if the country won't adore him, he'll destroy it, either directly (through his economic policies) or indirectly (through the actions of his co-religionists).
I think it is scarier than that. I believe Barry believes his own hype and he is so narcissistic that he thinks that if people(and enemies of the US) will just hear his words they will fall in love with his vision of world and put aside all their differences and follow him to utopia. He ignores the real problems because they just don’t fit in with his vision. The way he sees it if he doesn’t acknowledge them then they don’t exist. Just listen to his SOTU speech and one can see that he believes he has lost no ground and everybody is still in love with his ideas and those that aren’t just have not had a chance to clearly hear him out or they are just lacking in intelligence to comperhend his vision of a peaceful utopia of progressivism through building the perfect society.
