Illinois politics: a sign of hope in Palatine

Sometimes the pro-life candidate does win, even in the blue State of Illinois.

On Feb. 2, in the Chicago suburb of Palatine, staunch pro-lifer Tom Morrison defeated 11-year incumbent Suzie Bassi. Both are Republicans, but Bassi is, sad to say, a pro-abortion Catholic. She even supported tax-dollars for abortion-on-demand.

Catholic, mind you. Catholic.

Sickening, but all too common in this "seamless garment," "spirit of Vatican II" political and moral climate.

Thank you and thank God.

A Catholic who acts Catholic. Laus tibi Christe.

Do you happen to know what percentage Andrzejewski got?

I'm bummed that Andzejewski got just 14% --- which is one vote out of seven, in a field of 7. He seemed to me an exceptionally attractive candidate, with the all-important Life and Liberty focus, and with some potentially valuable allies (Walesa and Verastegui.) But they came very late in the game, and AA evidently didn't have the time or the money to maximize their impact.

In your opinion, was that the main problem? Lack of "early money" --- the mother's milk of politics? Or did he have other disadvantages?

I hope he learns, reorganizes, and tries again.

I learned about him late as well Mrs. Don-o. It wasn’t until I participated in a March for Life in Aurora, IL, that I saw his name plastered on a van, and started doing some research. My husband originally said not to waste our votes, and put them toward Brady, another strong pro-lifer who is Catholic, who I hope ends up winning this. But, yes, Lech Walesa was indeed an 11th-hour endorsement — much too late to make a difference, and the same with the Bella star — too late; I’m not sure why either of them waited so long.

Someone in a heavy Polish neighborhood of Chicago told me the Poles did not come out to the polls, and she felt it was because they knew nothing of the Walesa endorsement, and there was too little time for Adam’s group to get on ground there to spread the word.

When we wanted a yard sign, though, Adam had an office not more than two minutes away from our home, and the woman helping out there had a VERY strong Polish accent. Don’t know if they had offices in every town.

I’ll feel poorly if Brady doesn’t get in. We would have had two or three votes for him from our family, not to mention we would have promoted him. My husband feels that Dillard received a lot of votes from Schillerstrom, who pulled out of the election at the end.

Be sure to keep me informed about Brady as things develop. I will surely help (from here in TN!) any way I can.

Surely will. I didn’t know you were in Tennessee. What part? West, middle, or east? I visited Athens many moons ago, and just loved it. (My friend had the Smokies in her back yard.) Dreamy.

I’m in “Tri-Cities”, upper east Tennessee, Southern Appalachian bioregion, USDA Zone 6B, Watauga River watershed, just north of the Unaka Range. Best place on God’s Green Earth, IHMO!

I walked five precincts, for Andrzejewski. Yesterday, I emailed him and asked him to run for town council or school board, in 2011. I said that he can be elected to the state legislature, in 2012 or ‘14, if he has an elective office.

Excellent! Have you met Adam or do you know him personally?

Yes, I met him, about eight months ago, during a meeting of the Republican Assembly of Lake Co. I’m trying to form the Republican Assembly of Northern Cook Co., a club for conservatives, who live in the northern half of my county. I live in Northfield, and I found one Chicago resident and one Des Plaines resident who want to join.
