In the quietness of my final years I plan to watch a tree growa birch tree I planted as a tiny sapling over 30 years ago. It stands now in mature splendor, just outside our picture windowbeautiful in every season of the year.
So it is with our spiritual endeavors: We may have planted, watered, and fussed over our saplings (those weve mentored) for a time, but only God can make a tree.
Occasionally I hear from those I ministered to years ago, and discover to my delight that they have grown to maturity and have been greatly used of Godwith no help from me. Its a gentle reminder that I plant and water for a while, and help others grow up in all things into Him who is the headChrist (Eph. 4:15). But only God gives the increase (1 Cor. 3:6-7).
German theologian Helmut Thielicke writes, The man who doesnt know how to let go, who is a stranger to quiet, confident joy in Him who carries out His purposes without us (or also through us or in spite of us), in Him who makes the trees grow . . . that man will become nothing but a miserable creature in his old age.
So, at my age, I may yet tend a sapling or two, but mostly I will let go and watch them grow.

Calling All Hands. We have another hero getting ready to depart. Come join us in wishing a bon voyage to txradioguy and his family. I think this calls for a cyber party, don't you? Come one......Come all. This is what we do best. We shouldn't let our heroes leave or return without showing our gratitude.
Let's show txradioguy a good time before he and his family fly off to their new adventure. We've got everything you need. We've got music Weve got food We got drink You know the drill .. at a cyber party you're only allowed 2. We don't encourage drinking and FReeping. You know what they say, FRiends don't let FRiends drink and FReep. Thank you, txradioguy, for your service. God speed on your next journey.

A nice touch of class by BYU... we old Air Force types appreciate this and I am sure that the young ones do also...
I once said that some people take their football and the fighting for their alma mater way too serious in the “big” picture of life, a game should be a game, with good sports, no hard feelings and being an adult. This was sent to me by a friend, and sort of points that out.
Just prior to the start of the Air Force-BYU football game, Sept. 22, 2009, this video was broadcast in the BYU stadium in Provo, Utah.
Later, the USAF Academy Superintendent, Lt Gen Gould, showed this clip to the faculty and staff. He told everyone that BYU ran it minutes before the kickoff at the game. He was clearly moved by it, as were those who watched it. BYU is a class act.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU’RE OLD AND DON’T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.
George Phillips, an elderly man, from Meridian, Mississippi, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he’d left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked “Is someone in your house?”
He said “No,” but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.
Then the police dispatcher said “All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available..”
George said, “Okay.”
He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again.
“Hello,I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed.. Well, you don’t have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both, the dogs are eating them right now” and he hung up.
Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips’ residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George , “I thought you said that you’d shot them!”
George said, “I thought you said there was nobody available!”
