“Tebow was born on August 14, 1987 in the Philippines to Bob and Pam Tebow, who were serving as Christian missionaries at the time. While pregnant Pam suffered a life-threatening infection with a pathogenic amoeba. Because of the drugs used to rouse her from a coma and to treat her dysentery, the fetus experienced a severe placental abruption. Doctors expected a stillbirth and recommended an abortion to protect her life. She carried Timothy to term, and both survived.”
If an abortion for this medical reason were against the law in the Philippines, why would the doctors recommend it?

There could be two reasons... (not that I actually know their story, but "just saying"... :-) ...).
One reason could be that the law may have allowed for danger to the mother. But, I don't know if the law there in the Philippines allowed for that.
The second reason could be because they were Americans and that meant that she could get treatment back in the United States for something that was life-threatening (or something that was necessary for her health). So, the doctor[s] would have informed her, regarding her medical options.
