National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admistration (NOAA) Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco has released the following statement:
An epic snowstorm has the mid-Atlantic region in its cross hairs. At this time, personal safety must be first and foremost. National Weather Service forecasters have been tracking this storm for the past week and now that the storm is here it must be taken very seriously.
Chris Strong, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Sterling, Va. just emailed CWG and other media outlets the following note:
Our media partners,
If you would, please ensure these points get some airtime. Tonight into Saturday morning will be about as dangerous as winter weather can get around here. Thank you.

Out near Annapolis, it’s been snowing for over four hours. No accumulation on the roadways, yet (but air temps are still at or above 32 degrees), and maybe a 1/4 - 1/2 on our deck, grass, etc.
But it’s coming down pretty steady. If it turns cold, as it’s supposed to do, and snows until tomorrow, as predicted, we could get some big accumulation.
Maybe.

I have to admit that I “borrowed” the term snowpocalypse. Got it from the Capital Weather Gang at the Washington Post.

Come on winter weather can be tough but this is getting ridiculousI don't think they are hyping. 30 inches of snow with 25mph winds is bad news. Folks out driving in the stuff are gonna get stuck in their cars, and most probably won't be prepared for such, being DC liberals and all.

What is this — a Katrina redux?
What a bunch of weenies! Get those shovels out and get the job done.
That’ll solve the “overweight” problem that Mrs Obummer is so worried about too.

"Out near Annapolis, its been snowing for over four hours" Down here in S. Florida, I've had to re-apply sunscreen twice today and it might dip into the low 60s with a chance of evening thundershowers. We all have a environmental challenges to deal with.

Well, it’s the fluffy, heavy stuff for sure and coming down like big old feathers, at times about as big around as a pop can.
