Obama dismisses Blanche Lincoln's plea to be more centrist

President Obama’s sharp exchange of views with House Republicans made a splash the other day -- though for civility and substance, I much preferred the excellent left-meets-right encounter between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and our very own wunderkind Ezra Klein.

In any case, for those seeking a true measure of Obama’s judgment, on both policy and politics, the meeting between the president and Senate Democrats yesterday was much more instructive. Obama’s words made it clear that, notwithstanding his party’s recent election losses at the polls and its declining poll ratings, he has no intention of embarking on a Bill Clinton-style “triangulation” strategy.

The pivotal moment came when Sen. Blanche Lincoln of deep-red Arkansas, a centrist who’s on her way to defeat in November, practically begged the president to repudiate “extreme” liberals -- a clear reference to the Nancy Pelosi-led House -- and tack to the center. Arguing that the Democrats’ ambitious legislative agenda was sowing job-destroying “uncertainty” in the business community, she asked: “Are we willing as Democrats to push back on our own party?”

Obama’s reply, in a nutshell: Sorry, Blanche.

If the price of certainty is essentially for us to adopt the exact same proposals that were in place for eight years leading up to the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression -- we don’t tinker with health care, let the insurance companies do what they want, we don’t put in place any insurance reforms, we don’t mess with the banks, let them keep on doing what they’re doing now because we don’t want to stir up Wall Street -- the result is going to be the same. I don’t know why we would expect a different outcome pursuing the exact same policy that got us into this fix in the first place.

Earth to Blanche Lincoln: The people of Arkansas elected you, not B. Hussein Obama. You owe them, not him.

He's like Hitler in the bunker listening only to himself. The Democrats can't bring Obama around. I LOVE IT!

Good, I’m glad that he is turning out to be an ideologue. It will make the November blowout all that much bigger and sweeter.

"Obama dismisses Blanche Lincoln's plea to be more centrist"

He's never going to move to the center like we would like him to.

He's already - in no uncertain terms - let everyone know that "I WON.". It was said in a context and tone of voice to let all who heard know that he was going to do exactly what he wants to do.

And, since he ran as a democrat, he's going to rule "left", and since he's an Alinsky radical, he's going to rule on the FAR left extreme.

Now, he knows that, we know that, and he knows we know that...the trick is, he doesn't care whether we like it, nor NOT.

His pResidency is not about pleasing the American people, it's about "fundamentally changing the United States Of America" - to use his very words.

He figures that if he can get the changes in he wants, we won't have to run for re-election every again, he'll just take the office and keep it.

Now, I - for one - am really tired of the media, and the conservatives for that matter - "ooooing" and "ahhhhing" everytime he does something "far left"...that's what he does. "Dog bites man is NOT news...MAN bites DOG, is news".

There comes a time when you just get "fed up"...when what they other person says just doesn't matter any more, because you know it's bull$h!t anyway. We just need to plot a course to make him totally irrelevant in November, neuter him politically, and work on fixing all the destruction he done so far...if we wait, we will not have another chance, at least not in our lifetimes.

Eagles UP

To put it in poker terms, Obama is all in on his leftist, statis, socialist, communist, marxist agenda. He will be repudiated in November!!!

Please, read the comments to the original article!! It reads like DU in there - quite disturbing that anyone actually buys into the tripe that Obama is selling.

She should have switched parties when she had a chance.

The pivotal moment came when Sen. Blanche Lincoln of deep-red Arkansas...

WTF??? Deep-red Arkansas? You gotta be kidding. BOTH of our Senators are Dims, as are 3 of our 4 Rep's. Get real!

Yes, I know that the political climate is changing here, but I am just talking #'s over the last several years.

I think he will move to the center after the November blowout. In his own mentally unbalanced way hes been able to rationalize NC,VA and even Mass. When he no longer has majorities he’ll come off all buddy like,’I hear you now’,and hope that people change their opinion of him. Won’t happen and if the newly elected are smart, they won’t chose to work with his lame duck self either.
(like how i got hope and change in there?)

I read some, but i just ate dinner and now the pizza is repeating. Your warning wasn’t strong enough. Those people, most all of them, seem to think Obama is in the center politically.

All in all, Charles Lane wrote a surprisingly fair exposition of the situation.

What is amazing, though, is the reader comments at the bottom of the article. The Post's readership obviously has a high proportion of moonbats.

And, just as obviously, they're not interested in "fair" -- they want pundits whose fangs are dripping with the blood of Republicans (not to mention "moderate" Democrats).

It's not a very pretty picture...

Indeed, the reader posts are illuminating.

Those folks are going to go down with the ship. And, when they do, they're not going to go down quietly.

If anything, His followers might be more dangerous than He is.
