Tea Party turns nasty: ‘It’s our country – let’s take it back’
London Times ^ | 02/06/2010 | Tim Reid

They will proudly boast of how they have galvanised ordinary Americans against runaway government spending, but a dark underbelly of xenophobia has been exposed at the first national gathering of the Tea Party movement...

The anti-Government, anti-Establishment movement, which has splintered in the past week with many boycotting this gathering, has billed itself as a revolution born of the widespread disgust at Washington and the way that the nation’s politicians are bankrupting America’s future.

Yet the speech that opened the Nashville event yesterday, an address greeted with whoops and cheers from the mainly white audience, reflects a movement that also appears to have a less attractive side to it.

Tom Tancredo, a former Republican congressman who ran for president in 2008 on an anti-illegal immigration platform, said of the voters who elected Mr Obama: “They could not even spell the word ‘vote’ or say it in English and they put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House — Barack Hussein Obama!”

Decrying America’s multiculturalism, Mr Tancredo said that Republicans and Democrats had voted for a black man because they felt they had to. To a standing ovation, he shouted: “We really do have a culture to pass on to our children: it’s based on Judaeo-Christian values.”

“This is our country,” he declared. “Let’s take it back!” He added, to applause: “Cultures are not the same. Some are better. Ours is best!” The crowd, some wearing recently purchased T-shirts saying “Keep the change — I’ll keep my FREEDOM my GUNS and my MONEY”, loved it...

One featured speaker, a “Patriot Pastor” named Rick Scarborough, told The Times that he was not against legal immigrants “but God has ordained that you are not a nation if you don’t have borders”...

London chafing at the idea of American Tea Parties. The irony here seems to be totally lost on the Times.

This "Convention" and this speaker do not represent me.

Lighten up there, Alice. I was a 1%er loooong before there was a ever TEA party. It will take a helluva lot more than that to stir my bones for the Republicans, or anybody else.

But Hunter, Keyes, Tancredo, DeMint, and etc... I will listen to them - Every one of them, more Reaganite than Republican, and their records prove it so.

So you're preaching to the choir.

And as I said:

God bless Tom Tancredo.

Yes. And government control has not yet deprived them of any rights that matter to them. So they are taken care of and haven’t yet lost any rights. What’s not to like?

Lacking moral certitude. Right. Have you noticed over the last 20 years the blurring of right and wrong by the Communist controlled MSM. They always have the “other” view presented as an equal. Wrong is presented as a viable option to right. This inability to define what is right is what is killing us.

“Leftists can say what they want but say a word against illegal immigration and you are the dark underbelly of xenophobia!”

Very ironic since Europe is on the brink of destruction due to a foreign culture’s invasion.

I’m here at the National Tea Party Convention and have seen him talk a couple times. Very impressive, has some good ideas, I learned some good organizing ideas from one of his talks.

Anyone calling us racists needs to explain the huge cheers and standing ovations for Angela McGlowan here at the National Tea Party Convention. Expect her to formally declare a run for Congress on Monday. She all but did so in her talk last night.

"Lighten up there, Alice... God bless Tom Tancredo"

I can see why you like him. Between his speech and your post it is clear that you both enjoy engaging in name calling. You are welcome to him.

You have no idea how I sit and scream at my TV (my wife thinks it's hysterically funny) when, in the interest of "fairness," they persent the right or true side, then they give the wrong or lying side, and pretend that it's now a coin-toss as to which we should believe.

Right is right, and always will be. Believing a lie will never make it the truth. Shades of gray are for commies, cross-dressers amd criminals, and none are acceptable.

;-/

So recognizing that every socialist “utopia” on two continents has a foundation built upon the Church is wrong? Excuse me but IT MOVES!

Ah, America is a mainly white country.

This stuff is self-parody at it's worst (or best). The Onion News Channel can just rip and read this stuff without any re-writing necessary.

I know. It is a very basic form of brainwashing. The moral reletavism technique. You must notice all the “panels” always have a communist espousing communism as a viable alternative to freedom.

Excuse me...but you are generalizing and that argument does not “move.” You fail to distinguish between faithful Catholics and those who acted sinfully. You also fail to note the very positive influences/contributions made by the Church.

Also, socialism is NOT founded on the Church. Socialism was spawned by those who were in opposition to the Church.

“Also, socialism is NOT founded on the Church. Socialism was spawned by those who were in opposition to the Church.”

Acts 2: 42-45 Although this scripture has been taken out of context for the purposes of promoting Communism. it is not the first time the Word of the Lord has been so misused.

I made an observation. A quite astute observation, if I may say so. It is neither correct or incorrect, it exists. Please list one successful nation based upon a Roman Catholic foundation and I will say, “Yes my good man/woman, you are correct.” You have not.
I didn’t say socialism is founded on the Church. Liberation Theology is a socialist based ideology. Another fact.

“Please list one successful nation based upon a Roman Catholic foundation...

Straw man!

“Liberation Theology is a socialist based ideology”

This is correct and the Church has spoken strongly on the error of Liberation theology...its very terminology being an oxymoron. ;-)

The reason I objected to your initial observation was that it tends to mislead. Throughout history, especially with regard to influencing Western civilization, the Church has been a very positive influence. When we concentrate only on the negative and ignore the positive, we promote imbalance and encourage error. The Church is made up of human beings...and some have been quite sinful and brought scandal to the Church. The Teaching of the Church, however, has remained good for more than 2,000 years. ;-)
