Sadly that question will be asked at too many Super Bowl parties tonight. Some of my other least favorite inquiries overheard at past Super Bowl parties: What does first and ten mean? Why did he throw it into the ground? What's a spike? How many quarters do they play? Baseball is easier to understand. Why did he run right into the middle of where they all were? I have Colts 5 and Saints 2 boxes in my pool. Is that good?

How about this one that's asked on 4th down:

"Why are they kicking the ball back to the other team?"

Yep, like it’s easy to answer before the next play is run.

I noticed during many SBs that the announcers will subtly dumb down their dialogue to make the game more accessible to novice viewers. It’s kind of annoying, but whatever.
