Israel [...]provides benefits to their same-sex partners, as it does with spouses. Has that policy sapped Israel's military might? Its enemies don't seem eager to test the proposition.

When did Israel start accepting gays in the IDF? I was not particularly impressed with the IDF in Lebanon. What about the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War? Were there gay soldiers in the IDF then?

Exactly. No military is strengthened by allowing those with homosexual attractions to serve in the ranks. It worried me greatly when I heard that the IDF allows out and proud homos to serve. However, I think Israel's situation is different--don't they have universal conscription? If so, and they had a policy which kicked homos out, they would probably be faced with a raft of liberals claiming the "Klinger exemption."
