The whites conquered , the same as the Mohawks conquered . The white , in this case English , unfortunately , had the concept of deeds of land and treaties .
In the 1600's , when the Mohawks moved up the Ottawa Valley and attacked the Algonquins , who in turn attacked the Nipissings , who in turn moved west and drove the Ojibwa into what is now Minnesota , you think any of those tribes gave any thought to a land treaty or any kind of allowance for those they defeated? Of course not. If anything the English need for honour , deeds and treaties caused more problems than any conquering Indian tribe ever did . Fortunately the Mohawks returned to the St Lawrence , the Algonquin to the Ottawa Valley and , the Nipissings to North East Ontario , the Ojibwa to Sault St. Marie.
Then the white man screwed it all up.
