Paul Krugman Hypocrite, Calls For End Of Filibuster. Defended It During Bush Years

Posted by John Romano in Politics on February 8, 2010

New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman effectively displays today what has become known as the liberal double standard. In 2005 Mr. Krugman said the following in a New York TImes editorial:

But the big step by extremists will be an attempt to eliminate the filibuster, so that the courts can be packed with judges less committed to upholding the law than Mr. Greer.

Hypocrite Paul Krugman of the New York Times

Back then Mr. Krugman’s preferred party was in the minority. Yesterday, now that his party is in the majority and they are being blocked on unpopular legislation, Mr. Krugman said the following:

Senators themselves should recognize this fact and push through changes in those rules, including eliminating or at least limiting the filibuster. This is something they could and should do, by majority vote, on the first day of the next Senate session.

If the New York Times and even the Democrat party as a whole want to understand why their popularity is on the wane look no further than the above four paragraphs.

Krugman’s hypocrisy will be explained away by the left as “well the party of ‘no’ brought this on themselves.” The American people know the truth, the Democrats and their supporters in the press are calling for limiting or banning the filibuster because it suits their needs. Watch again how Mr. Krugman will call for a robust filibuster if the Dems ever lose the majority.

The question I have is will Mr. Krugman accept the label of extremist now that he is calling for an end to the filibuster?

It never ends folks.

Yeah, I noticed that exact same thing. The guy staunchly defended it when Republicans were in control of both Houses under Bush, and now he's against it.

This is the exact same scenario as campaign finance reform. All the corrupt MSM wailed about the evils of money in campaigns and cried for CFR as long as Republicans held the fund-raising advantage. They got their got their reform and Obama promptly, and deceptively, bailed on public financing. Obama raised $750 million in campaign cash, much from illegal sources, and there was not one peep from the corrupt MSM about the evils of money in campaigns.

I file this under the same header: Buzz off Enron boy!

All you have to know about Krugman is that he won a Nobel Prize . . . the true Medal of a Dipstick. See Al Gore, Jimmy Carter . . .

This guy even looks like a moron.

I thought this during the Bush years and I think it now: If they are going to have a filibuster, it should be a real, All-Senate-Business-Grinds-To-A-Halt, Jimmy-Stewart-Reading-From-The-Telephone-Book, kind of filibuster. None of this mamby-pamby stall-your-judicial-nomination-until-the-person-who-nominated-you-dies-of-old-age type stuff we got now.

If the dems are the ones filibustering, Krugman’s for it.
If the dems are the ones being filibustered, he’s against it.

The filibuster is not the issue. He was for it in the past because it could advance the causes of the democrats. He’s against it now because it can stop them. You can replace the word filibuster with any political device. His take on things wouldn’t change.

I am so glad they can blame this on the Republican filibuster, which, of course, is all Scott Brown’s fault. Can Krugman explain why, when the Senate had a FILIBUSTER PROOF MAJORITY, the Dems still couldn’t pass the healthcare legislation that they swear is just what the sheeple ordered?

The answer is that they all know this is BS, except they have to start coming up with an election year story about why they failed to do anything for Obama’s first year. They think if they blame the Republicans, the people will forget that the Dems didn’t need the Pubbies for anything this year. And the sheeple are voting....in Virginia, and New Jersey, and Massachusetts.....next stop Nevada for Harry Reid’s retirement party. I just wonder if when Harry retires, he’ll want Obama to speak with the Negro accent or without it.

Makes perfect sense if you understand liberals. The only principal the Left has is the one that helps them TODAY. This can be 180 opposite from the one that helped them YESTERDAY.

Yeah... and the filibuster right as your own party is facing historic losses. This guy’s smart.
