USA: Fiscal hawks balk at budget cuts

When President Barack Obama last week proposed a freeze on some federal spending, Sen. George LeMieux dismissed it as too little, too late. “Our nation is more than $12 trillion in debt,” he said. “Shame on us if we don’t address the problem head on.”

But when Obama proposed a big cut in the NASA budget Monday, the Republican from Florida — home to the Kennedy Space Center — said the president should look elsewhere for savings.

“I don’t think that makes any sense,” LeMieux said of Obama’s plan.

He isn’t the only fiscal hawk to squawk.

Three billion out of NASA? What a effing joke. One of the few things government should be doing and this idiot wants to get rid of it. You wanna know why? Its because of all those white middle class men (ie engineers) working as contractors in Republican STates like Utah, Florida, Alabama, and Florida.

Oh, and notice how there wont be any cuts to NASA guvvies and all those useless GS-15's making 130K doing absolutely nothing. None of them loses their jobs, what a surprise !!

I agree. NASA should be left alone.
Its easy enough to cut the national debt right now: Return the over $500 billion in “stimulus” money that has still not been spent. That will take a big chunk from our national debt.
# 2, those hundreds of billion of dollars of TARP loans that have been paid back (with interest)by the banks etc, should be used to pay down the national debt. Why is 0bama illegally using that money as a piggy bank to dole out?
These 2 alone will cut our national debt by close to $1 Trillion.

I agree.
This 0bozo joker wasted to the tune of $2 billion on the notorious, failed cash for clunkers program, and he can't spend a mere $3 Billion to keep America's space program going?
