I think my difficulty is in believing in an airtight conspiracy so vast that it encompasses successful forging of evidence at DOH and in who-knows-how-many copies of microfiche for 2 different newspapers. As we’ve seen in the first year of this administration, in many ways it is the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. There have been gaffes aplenty, yet we’re to believe this same group has orchestrated a clever criminal conspiracy and cover-up that not one person has yet dared to breach?
Remember, all it would take is ONE dedicated librarian (e.g., a major research library such as University of Chicago) to check their copy of the fiches in question and demonstrate it is different than the forged versions appearing all over the Internet. Or just ONE conspirator who’d finally gotten sick of Obama and realized what a clown he was in terms of ineffectiveness and was willing to sell out to National Enquirer: how much do you think they would pay for bulletproof evidence that Obama had engaged in a criminal conspiracy to illegally engineer his way into office? This would make Watergate look like a molehill in comparison (since Nixon, however you might regard him, at least had been legally elected to the office he abused).
Bureaucracies are very far from well-oiled machines. Indeed, read Graham Allison’s Essence of Decision to see how close standard operating procedures of bureaucracies got us to becoming embroiled in a thermonuclear holocaust in 1962. If there were not independent corroboration via 2 different newspapers that reported the identical DOH-released list of names in August 1961, including Barack Obama’s, then I concur that all the timeline problems that have been cited might be much more problematic to explain. But any credible conspiracy theory has to explain not only how this was engineered within DOH (requiring perhaps only a handful of co-conspirators) but how they also managed to retroactively alter decades-old microfiches without detection.
