Republicans: Activist Dave Battaglia, Businessman Tim Burns and Army Vet & ’08 nominee William T. “Bill” Russell

TOPICS: Politics/Elections; US: Pennsylvania
KEYWORDS: 111th; 2010midterms; battaglia; billrussell; bucchianeri; conservative; demprimary; mackell; murtha; oifveterans; pa2010; russell; specialelection; timburns

"Can’t think of anything good to say about Murtha."

There is an awesome park up in Murtha's district, Fort Necessity. It commeorates Washington's first military battle.

The place literally looks like a million bucks ~ probably 2. Murth's name is featured on a giant plaque as you leave the building.

On the day that I visited there were like 4 other people there. Left to exist via it's own resources ~ and the free market ~ the place would never exist. Since you and I paid for it, money was not a consideration.

In all seriousness, this is a very nice museum, dedicated to a very important event. If you are able to you should visit and spend a little money in Fayette County, PA. It's a nice place. The folks that I met in Murtha's district were the salt of the earth ~ great folks. I hope that it serves them well.

Regardless, no fiscal restraint was employed in this project.

I believe Bill Russell is the man to get behind. Here's a thread on the special election.

John Murtha dies, special election looms (McCain carried PA-12)

I donated to Bill Russell last time around. A good man. He would have won if Murtha hadn’t bought the district.

Are there any political number-crunchers assessing the electability of all these guys who threw their hats in the ring so precipitously? Does Bill Russell have any apparent advantage by virtue of name recognition after the ‘08 election?

On what do you base that, Depot of the Delta? Sounds like a lot of folks really like Bill Russell.

Looks like he had $388,212 in cash as of 12-31-09.

I don’t know what the law says about where it goes.

Bill Russell is a career Army Ranger, you idiot.

Ooh...it does appear that the nominees for the special election are chosen by political parties.

Candidates to fill vacancies in the offices of Representative in Congress, Senator and Representative in the General Assembly and member of the council or legislative body of any city, borough, town or township shall be nominated by political parties, in accordance with the party rules relating to the filling of vacancies, by means of nomination certificates, in the form prescribed in section 630 of this act; and by political bodies, by means of nomination papers, in accordance with the provisions of sections 951, 952 and 954 of this act. [Said] Except as provided in subsection (b), said nomination certificates and nomination papers for the office of Representative in Congress, Senator and Representative in the General Assembly shall be filed in the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth not later than fifty (50) days prior to the date of the special election,

Theoretically someone could win the remainder of the term on May 18 and lose the nomination for the full term.

IMO It would be a good idea for local people to keep an eye on it....NOW before it’s spent or moved into off shore accounts.

At the very least check with local lawyers to see what’s up!

It looks like Bill Russell is the candidate to rally around. I had hoped that Diana Irey would give it another try, but that looks unlikely.
