If youre the President of the United States or one of his political appointees and youre ideologically opposed to new oil and natural gas development offshore, what do you do when the public registers its overwhelming support for new drilling in public opinion polls?
You dance, delay, and deceive. You speak melodious words about seeking the wisdom of the public in making these decisions and then ignore evidence of the public will when you get it, or worse, you hide it.
First came the dance. In August 2008, after soaring gas prices and a dramatic shift in public opinion caused President Bush, Florida Governor Charlie Crist, and Republican presidential candidate John McCain to reverse their positions on offshore drilling, then-Senator Obama also changed. The Democratic presidential nominee reversed his own position and that of his party, saying he was open to offshore drilling as part of an overall energy plan. The Democratic Congress followed a month later by quietly dropping the 25-year Congressional ban on offshore drilling.
Then came the delay. In January 2009, President Obama inherited a draft five year offshore drilling plan prepared by the outgoing Bush administration. The plan was already receiving public comment as part of the elaborate rule making process followed by federal agencies. Ken Salazar, Obamas new Secretary of Interior, determined the decision about new offshore drilling was so important that he ordered a six-month extension to the comment period.
Third comes the dishonesty.

Toward FREEDOM!
This admin and the envirowackos will ruin the country. The Chinese and Indians and Brazilians are going full speed ahead on acquiring, exploring, and tapping fossil fuel reserves around the globe, from coal mines in Australia (chinese), to deep water drilling (brazil), to buying up prospects all over Africa (all three countries). They care not a whit about carbon, they will do what they need to in order to provide cheap reliable power to their people.
We in the USA have vast energy resources, yet we are the ONLY country which refuses to harness them. From the Beaufort and Chuchki Sea off Alaska, to Gulf waters, to shale gas all over the country, to coal, we are putting vast areas off limits, or enacting environmental rules which make these sources uneconomical. The people need to take back our country. We could end reliance of Hugo and the Saudis, employ millions of our citizens, generate huge tax revenue for fed and state gov’ts, yet we refuse. A society such as ours is commmting clow motion economic suicide, which is exactly what the left and marxist enviros had planned all along.
I’ve already ordered a case of campaign to keep on hand. ;-)
As China and Russia gobbles up oil fields around the globe our ruling leftist tyrants starve this nation of its energy resources. We citizens are like the starved and abused children kept locked up in the basement.
That’s the point. He’s PURPOSELY dismantling our country.
So glad that this issue is being addressed again....
DRILL BABY DRILL!
Truthfulness is the major problem this administration suffers from. It makes reasonable people wonder how many lies the 2008 Obama Campaign told, probably on an hourly basis, and how many of those lies were dismissed or hidden by a friendly, compliant and now disgruntled media.
You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.
The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.
It is a good thing to toast a successful political champagne, with a good glass of bubbly campaign.
More of his hopey change.
why aren’t republicans saying more?
Could ACORN workers do the oil drilling rather than the sex drilling?
no i think they are afraid its not pc
“no i think they are afraid its not pc” . To whom the media?
You are exactly right and someone should make Energy Independence a top priority in their campaign. Most sane people can understand that it makes NO SENSE to be dependent on those who want to kill us when we have enough resources to take care of our own needs and probably sell to other countries. Most people can understand how this would create jobs and prosperity to a great many people. Drill, baby, Drill has to be the cry of the land. We might remain free and even regain some of the freedoms we have lost over recent, and not so recent, years. Sarah Palin is the most experienced in energy matters of any of the current possibilities. She has dealt with energy companies, environmentalists, crooked politicians (some in her own party), the works. She understands individual rights and personal responsibility and God given rights and repsonsibilities like, Love your Neighbor. She will bring us closer to God and we very greatly need a leader who will take us in That direction.
