25 percent of D.C. plows out of commission
WTOP News, Washington DC ^ | 2-9-10 | Mark Segraves

Posted on 02/09/2010 12:11:46 PM PST by STONEWALLS

WASHINGTON - As the region braces for another major storm, one local government is having trouble keeping their plows on the roads, WTOP has learned. As many as 60 of the District's snow plows are not working -- bad news for thousands of residents still waiting for their streets to be cleared.

According to an internal email obtained by WTOP, 25 percent of the District's snow plow fleet is down and they're having trouble getting replacement parts.

D.C. is also now rationing their salt supply.

The email states they'll have enough to get through the upcoming storm. DDOT has 9,000 tons of salt on hand, with another 32,000 tons coming in soon. The city normally has 40-50,000 tons of salt onhand.

The email also raises concerns about staffing issues. Crews have been working non-stop since the blizzard on Friday.

Plows will continue to salt streets to prevent re-freezing overnight.

DDOT is also working to get Bobcats and other front loaders to help with snow removal

...this is classic D.C. city government....black Democrats have been running the city for over 30 years and this is the kind of incompetance your tax dollars pay for.

"they're having trouble getting replacement parts"..

translation...the parts wholesaler wants cash-in-advance...he knows if he gives them the parts and sends the city an invoice it will get lost in the inefficient and lackadasical city treasurers office...it will be months and much aggrivation before he gets his money...he's been thru this all before...so if the city wants repair parts it will be cash on the barrel head.

....and this type of situation gets repeated over and over in urban America under the auspices of black Democrat governance...but yet blacks will go to the polls in November and re-elect the same city officials, when they really deserve better.

This should be part of the Democrats job bill. Give them shovels and put the DC people back to work.

Not to mention, one out of four trucks down for maintenance means there’s a whole lotta’ slackin’ going-on in the maintenance department. One out of eight would be something that should make any self-respecting organization start wondering if it has a larger problem.

Maybe we can get an aerial photo of the parked plows to display next to the pic of Ray Nagin’s schoolbus fleet.

‘black Democrats have been running the city for over 30 years and this is the kind of incompetance your tax dollars pay for. ‘

Black? You don’t need to go down that road. Race has nothing to do with it except voting patterns. It’s simple lack of leadership and competence.

I'll bet they're cannibalizing some to provide parts for the others. As for the funding provided to maintain the fleet - well, it brings to mind the Orleans Parish Levee Board.

That much is certain, but when you’ve cannibalized up to 25% of your fleet . . . just wow.

we have white democrats running our little city Annapolis the capital of Maryland and they are just as incompetent- just returned from several hours of seeing city snow plows run around town with their blades 6 inches above the snow pack

The people who are being paid to maintain the equipment are all affirmative action employees who show up when they feel like and work as little as they please. Nobody bothered to see what parts were in stock and no one bothered to see if the equipment needed maintenance. The government in DC is totally incompetent.
