Exclusive: Scott Brown plans memoir
Politico ^

Posted on 02/10/2010 7:31:03 AM PST by MarkAccord

The man with the truck will soon be the man with a book.

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), the party's hottest elected official, has decided to write a book that combines memoir and inspiration.

Gail Gitcho, his new Senate communications director, tells POLITICO: “Senator Brown is honored and humbled to be approached by many people who want him to tell his inspirational personal story about his life leading up to his election as a United State Senator from Massachusetts. He will tell his story in a book in hopes of providing insight and encouragement to others and also to ensure that the record is complete and accurate.

"Part of the book proceeds will be donated to charity," Gitcho continued. "Senator Brown will work with a collaborator so he can continue to focus fully on his service to the people of Massachusetts, which is, and always will be, his first priority.”

Brown has hired Robert Barnett of Williams & Connolly, who is the city's leading counsel to politician-authors, to help him through the process.

The book is permitted under Senate rules. Aides say anything Brown does regarding the book will be reviewed and approved by the Senate Ethics Committee.

No decision has been made on timing or publisher.

This book will come in handy when Scott Brown is doing interviews and running for President as the Republican nominee.

Won’t happen. Too much Romney and too much northeast liberal Republican. He’s already becoming old news.

I got an idea....how ‘bout being a Senator and not a writer? I know with my job I have no time to write about or think about writing a book.

Why anyone would read it is beyond me. He won a big senate election. What has he done besides that?

Disclosure: I made calls for Scott Brown

His only connection with Romney is that Romney was the Republican Governor of Massachusetts while Brown was in the state senate.

If he runs, he would be running against Romney, not with him.

He also refused to be seen campaigning with Romney the last few months.

A state senator.
Then a US senator.
Immediate talk of a presidential run.
An autobiography written by a young man.

I voted for Scott Brown, I'm glad he won, but I'm really not prepared to go down this path the whole way. Sorry.

Every ambitious politician needs to write a book. That goes back to John F. Kennedy and Profiles in Courage.

How about Brown sticking to his day job for a while so we can see how good he is at it. OK?

He's just starting to serve in the US senate, so talk about presidential asperations are premature, and he has to run for re-election in 2012.

Writing a book is a little presumptuous for a newly minted Senator. Shades of Obama’s egomania.

The smart thing would be for him to write his book (actually it will be ghost-written), build up his record, take the hard votes that will come up in the future, and see what happens.

His campaign for President if it happens, will either take off like a kite, or just flop and he will run for re-election as Senator. Go with the flow.

I agree. He needs to not let all the publicity go to his head, shut-up for awhile and figure out the legislative process, work hard, and seek counsel from guys like DeMint.

Maybe he ought to concentrate on being a Senator.

He can chew gum and walk at the same time. People will notice the first time he breaks with the Republican leadership. One misstep could hurt him badly.

Note to Senator Brown: maggief predicts a best seller, especially if you include plenty of new pics. :)

I think so too. I was happy that he won, but I had a whiff of some ego-mania during his victory speech. Many of these politicians get on my nerves—I don’t put much stock in any of them. You can count on them, they will always let you down.
