Round 2: Blizzard Buries East, Grounds Flights

WASHINGTON -- Snow, wind and slush hounded eastern commuters Wednesday as blizzard warnings from Baltimore to New York City heralded the second major storm in a region already blanketed by historic weekend snowfalls.

More than 10 inches of new snow fell before dawn in parts of Maryland that had received up to 30 inches just a few days earlier. Plows and salt spreaders fought heavy snow in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where the flakes briefly turned to rain to make a slushy mix.

Yeah, I think my mom — who died about 10 years ago at age 87 — was the last living human being to remember it. Probably stuck in her mind because she had just come over two years earlier as a seven-year-old Italian immigrant.

Interesting article here....

Seems that the The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted a storm for this time period.

Snow rumors abound as 2nd nor’easter looms
http://www2.newsvirginian.com/wnv/news/local/waynesboro/article/snow_rumors_abound_as_2nd_noreaster_looms/51807/

Does anyone else has a Farmer’s Almanac or know what it says?

Thundersnow is creepy.

We had it several times in lake effect and when we saw it, we went in and shoveled later.

Here in MD, school systems have announced closing for the rest of the week.

City of Baltimore is in Phase 3 Emergency, which means only official vehicles are allowed to drive on city streets.

The state has gotten stingy with the road salt. My street got plowed, but no salt. Northern VA is also in tight supply. Nine shiploads of salt have been ordered, the first of which has already arrived at Baltimore’s port.

Gas stations here and there are running dry. They can’t get tankers in.

I’m a lifetime resident, and can’t recall ever, this widespread a scale of problems from snow.

On the map if you look carefully, there is a white outline map of the US under all that color.

It doesn’t look good for next week.

And get this one for a laugh...

If I were told blizzard conditions were expected, I WOULD make sure we had the essentials and would go out and stock up and hunker down.

As would most people... thereby causing a rush on the stores and a shortage of goods. Might I suggest storing essentials BEFORE the weather bureau creates a panic. Even a two week supply costs little and requires a minimum of storage space. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark! (And yes, before folks check my "about" page, I am a Mormon.)

You haven’t seen my posting history I take it.

By essentials, I mean milk and eggs and gas, period.

Looks like CNY.

They sure are getting the wind though, and that’s what makes any storm ten times nastier than it needs to be. The drifting can be a killer.

Could the snowpocalypse and snowmageddon become Barry’s Katrina?

Rush was saying the DC office of FEMA is closed because of the snow! ;-)

You start shoveling from the edges first and make sure you get more than your weight of snow off before adding any more.

Our township ran out of salt and very low on sand here in Atlantic County. I haven’t seen a plow in the last 3 hours.
