In the face of attacks and pressure by the influential gun control group, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (formerly known as Hangun Control, Inc.), Starbucks is sticking to its guns and welcoming armed customers in its Atlanta stores.
Following a Huffington Post article by two officers of The Brady Center, in which words like "disturbing" and "scary" were repeated, and decrying what the authors see as "normalzing the carrying of guns in public places, openly and concealed," Starbucks corporate headquarters released a comment clearly indicating that they were not going to bow to The Brady Center's intense pressure.
The Customer Relations Department wrote:
Starbucks does not have a corporate policy regarding customers and weapons; we defer to federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding this issue.
This is strike 3,482 for The Brady Center. With National Parks firearms carry going into effect in less than two weeks and an all but sure ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court expected this summer that the right to bear arms applies to state and local governments, it must be a rough time to be a gun control activist. The Brady Center does not appear aware that in almost every state people have a right to bear arms in public. They write, about a new lawsuit in the District of Columbia,
