Kasich maintains solid lead over Strickland in race for Ohio governorship

Well, you and I will differ. I am certain that Kasich will have a very detailed agenda released for the general campaign, but his initial plan to phase out the state income tax is enough to get my vote. I am hoping he will propose to privatize our workmen’s compensation program which is one of the biggest job killers we have going.

Think carefully before throwing your support for any Rat. Strickland is ardently pro-choice, supported first Clinton and then Obama vigorously in 2008, is more restrictive on school choice due to teacher’s union backing, and he ultimately believes that government is the answer to Ohio’s issues. He is not going to propose any conservative solutions to our state’s problems.

I was not a fan of Taft either, and I agree Strickland is better than Taft. However, Strickland will not do the things the state needs to bring businesses back to this state because he has to bow the knee to the unions and socialists who have run the businesses and population from our state in the first place.

Look - the Congress of the mid 90s, with Gingrich as speaker and Kasich as budget chairman, was the only federal congress since probably FDR to actually CUT REAL SPENDING, not just cut the rate of growth in spending. They lost the showdown with Clinton over shutting down the government due to PR spin and the media, but they were right. Shut down the NEA, Department of Energy, etc ....

Kasich is a guy who has actually done something that most politicians cannot/will not do - propose real government spending cuts that actually eliminate waste. He has my vote for governor.

Just about anyone is better than Taft. :)

I heard Kasich speak before he decided to run, and jobs creation was at the top of his list - creating an environment where businesses want to come to Ohio and not flee. In that way a lot like Blackwell.

He'll do a much better job than Strickland, without a doubt.

I give him and Newt a lot of credit for that. I'm sure Bill Clinton, secretly, does, too. Everbody should. It was a great achievment.

Still, changing the main theme from Reagan's Morning in America growth economics to phony balanced budgets was a huge strategic error. Everyone and his dog now thinks Republicans are mean spirited budget cutters. Anyone who even remembers Reaganomics thinks it was soemthing for "the rich".

I hope Kasich wins, but I hope he doesn't become a conservative leader again.

phase out the state income tax If Kasich coupled that with a promise to keep sales tax low, it might mean something to me. I have a cousin in Tennessee who has lived in many states over the years and she said no income tax means higher sales taxes. People near the border shop in adjacent states. Even if it’s a great plan that he can convince Ohio’s congress to approve, phasing out taxes takes time. What has Kasich proposed that would have a more immediate effect? I don’t hear him calling for illegal immigrants to be deported or strick fines for businesses paying wages in cash.

If Strickland wasn’t willing to take on unions, why did the nurses union run anti-Strickland ads (after his election)? Sure, Strickland isn’t running on a “free-to-work” platform, but neither Kasich.

Kasich is an average, career politician. Nothing about him is radically conservative. Considering who is in the White House for the next three years, I don’t see an economic cloud lifting any time soon. So why not let the Dems ride out the storm in Ohio? And when skies brighten and the rainy-day-fund starts getting fat someday, Republicans can run a fiscally conservative candidate. I think you and I and the rest of Ohio Republicans are putting too much emphasis on the Governors race. It is Strickland’s own party in Congress that has hampered his income tax cut proposals.
