Does the 898th know that they are dealing with nuclear weapons and not candy machines?

Their mentality, as I perceived it, appeared to be that since they're under a mountain, they could get away with things that no one else in the nuke business could even think of. The 1995 inspection was reported to have found bootprints on nukes...

It was bad...because of that inspection, we of the 896th were subjected to at least 3 no-notice, middle-of-the-night, JCS-directed stockpile verifications and 2 surprise full-blown inspections in the 6 months I was there. Just when I thought the place would drive me (an aircraft maintenance officer doing a “career broadening” into nuke maintenance) crazy, I was able to finagle a move to the fighter wing. That was my last nuke job while in the service, and good riddance!
